Hey there guys. I put this in chat because it is kind of an annoying question... but I was hoping to get some feedback, thoughts, opinions from all of you. I have had my '89 s13 for almost 10 years and have suffered through the summers with no AC and factory black leather interior. And let me tell you... black leather + no AC = Sticky, miserable summer driving. The ass-clown at Nissan who thought up that option package was surely canned soon after. Anyways... I want AC. I was to the point where I was just gonna begin looking for another s13 and swap everything over JUST TO GET AC. But my car is clean, straight... I love it... and really don't want another.

Would it be that difficult to gather the parts and install them into my non-AC chassis? Has anyone on Zilvia ever successfuly done it?

Thanks guys.

Ron

installing a/c in ur car isn't that bad.
if your car doesn't equipped with a/c at factory, i'm sure there's a way.
add a a/c compressor on your engine block, and get a custom a/c line, crimp them up and fit it to the way a/c suppose to work.
u may find some info about installing a/c on non-a/c equipped car somewhere on google. but one thing u need is a a/c line crimping tool.

Your not getting old. Your just turning into a intelligent mature person and not some dumb kid who thinks not having AC is gonna save them all kinds of wasted HP. LOL

That said your biggest issue with installing the AC is, is the wiring there for it? If it is it would not be hard to install the AC in with all the parts.
If the wiring needs to be done I am sure it could but it would just be a bit more of a bitch. Anything like this can be done if your determined.
If people can put power windows on a manual window car then doing your AC will not be that much harder.
Be prepared to yank your dash to do it though.

My S14 has A/C... but the damn blower doesn't work. It sucks big fat dick.

And yeah, its not that hard. Just find out what all you're missing from the A/C system, and put it in. If your car isn't wired up for it, then get the harnesses and what not from another S13 and have at it.

I have interest in this as well. I don't think I can take another summer with no AC. I'm freaking dying here. My car came with AC so I'm a little ahead here. Would like to see if yall have done it. Not thread jacking just interested a swell.

Yea, I don't think I'm going to be able to keep a/c on my redtop for now, gonna need to have a custom line made, I'm super pissed about it, lol.

I was looking forward to actually having a/c.

I would give theses people an email and see if they have any dealer a/c install kits. Most Nissan a/c's back in the 90's were dealer installed. I've seem them list the install kit for a z32 300zx before. Maybe they have a 240 one.

Take the car to an A/C shop. You'd be surprised how cheap it is to have them make a line.

I work at an a/c shop, lol, residential though.

I'm just lazy and don't want to fuck with it.

I the car has nothing at this point. I'm really regreting not thinking about where I was going (as far as wanting AC) when I put together my SR wiring harness. Doh! Oh well. I can dig back into the harness. There are so many people parting out their s13's it has got to be super easy to source oem parts, lines, etc...

http://www.hotrodair.com/ this might help, it COULD be a cheaper alternative...maybe not, but you'll just have to see wont you?

Ouch, I can't imagine myself going thru summers without ac. You're going to need a lot of parts. I'd recommend going with an aftermarket unit like sw20 said. Adding ac is quite a pain but here's a list that you're going to need:
Compressor
A/C lines
Condenser
Receiver/Dryer
Evaporator
HVAC box for the evaporator with blend doors and stuff (I'm pretty sure the box you have now should be able to receive an evaporator)
High/low pressure switches
The wiring to control the compressor & switches
Drive belt to run the comp
Possibly a PCM from a car with a/c for the switches

That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm forgetting some other things.

why go without it? Cause no a/c = you sweating. you sweating = dirtying the interrior seats and all + smelly car. Also, you sweating = open windows which = dirt in your car. so.......... why not use an a/c?? You lose a tad bit gas and hp? who cares......................

To add to it he lives in Arizona, which means really hot in the summer and potentially dusty due to desert conditions.

Ya... I'm pretty sure it's gonna suck my balls... but it might beat buying another car?

It hasn't been bad yet, during the summer it will most likely be horrible though

hoping the summer will teach me a lesson to never think about removing it

91redMS13's list looks pretty good, of course, for a car like my s13 which had AC before I put in the SR, it's much easier than a car like my s14 which has nothing. I don't think I want A/C bad enough to spend $800 on an aftermarket unit, but I might spend a couple hundred sourcing the OEM parts :)

would be nice if the factory back then had though of in-cabin filters, I just replaced mine on my DD and the car smells almost new again.

wonder how I can use the stock system and put one in....

The S15 had them and I have been wondering if you could hybrid the Filter housing into the system.

I hate my leather. It's sticky during the rainy season and absorbs heat in the summer. Shot it with an IR Themo and the section in the sun was 105* and the rest was 95*. AC acts like a nice dehumidifier most of the time but I need to get a nice cloth seat.

Wow. I have the same problem my car came without factory a/c. I'm in the process of gathering all the alleged necessary parts, has anyone completed this install?

The dealer still might have a box that you can purchase with all of the parts required to install AC into an non-AC vehicle.

I looked into it once up here and my local Nissan dealer one left in the warehouse.

I'm sure the price is pretty steep, but it's all brand new factory stuff.

I'll try and get you a part number tomorrow.

EDIT: what I ended up doing was going to my local Pick-n-pull. They have a deal where, if you buy the whole AC system out of a car it's only 110 bucks. As opposed to all the pieces being 20 to 30 dollars each.

Now you if put that amount behind all of the parts listed above, that's well over 110 dollars.

All you have to do is order the line from the receiver/drier to the evaporator, assuming that a junkyard will most likely cut that one.

Don't think it will be that hard, might have to do some home made work to get the ducting to line up... but its not like a drastic change in design... the cars are laid almost the same.
