I'm wondering if the S14 auto trim piece can be used on a manual tranny and not interfere with the shifter. I have a C's short shifter right now so I don't need as much space to shift so it MIGHT work right?
try it, If it doesn't work just remove the whole trim piece itself and use it like that.
still this is dumb, you can easily find a manual trim at a junkyard or a part out thread on zilvia for fairly cheap.

you can shift with it. the shifter will rub the sides on the trim when in 1st,2nd,5th and reverse. im not to sure if you can screw a shift boot on it tho.

ive seen a shift boot put on the automatic shifter trim many times. it looks very nice IMO and reminds me of the NSX gearbox. i havent heard of any rubbing though. someone with this setup should chime in.

I'm running it right now, and i have the normal long throw shifter (stock).. it interferes, but works... Its kind of annoying though... With a short shifter it would be fine.

A short throw shifter doesn't change the distance between gates. If the OE unit rubs, anything else will too.

I already have a manual trim piece, just trying something out.

I don't need to screw one on, it just needs to be secure enough.

That's sort of what I'm trying to accomplish :naughty:

Thanks, do you think you can take measurments of the opening?

I did not know that, if it's slight maybe I can just grind it down and still look good.
Edit: also from the pics I've seen it's hard to tell, but is the opening center on the trim?

i tried this when i got manual swap and didnt have the manual trim. it works like people said, doesnt' rub too much or interfere too much but looks bad. only 1st and maybe 2nd would touch the side. i would just stick w/ a manual trim.

Can someone take a measurement of the opening of the auto trim piece? If it's close to 2.5x3.5 it'd be AWESOME.

This thread is pointless, if you already have a manual shift trim, use it!

I'm using it right now, but want to try something different.

If it works out then I will give someone my trim piece that needs it more than I do.
All I'm trying to do it make the NSX-R mesh shift boot fit on my S14. The stock manual trim is too big and the auto trim piece might be thin enough to work out. So someone please just measure the trim piece so I can test it out.

I did a manual swap and kept my s14's auto trim piece. No interference with the stock shifter, but I have a nismo tranny mount so maybe my tranny just doesn't shake as much as these other guys posting.
I think it looks fine. It's just a piece of plastic with a hole...
I did have some smartass try to make fun of me for "trying to make your auto shifter look like a manual" on a local forum.
