View Full Version : Identify these 2 plugs on a S13 SR20DET harness

This plug is inside the car - right below where the A/C blower is and befor the ECU plug.

This plug is behind the plug that go right behind the passengerside headlight.

If I remember right, that plug has something to do with smog equipment in the car. Something to do with canisters in the gas tank. You wont need it.
2nd picture...i have no idea which plug youre talking about...you talking about the smaller one on the left side before the battery looking things? I know its been a while but if it is that plug, it may or may not be the power steering sensor plug.

yeah, i'm not too sure what you're referring to in the second picture. you should use mspaint (start > run > type "mspaint" and press enter") and point to which plugs you're talking about.
but if you're talking about the plugs on the end of the harness, you need to cut those off and mate them to your chassis. that is unless this is a used harness. but if it's a new harness, or you know for a fact it's un-modified, then yeah, cut them off and mate them.

I have the same issue - this pic here I think the one your talking about is the 1 my Harness is missing the END - There is a Orange and Brown wire that has no Harness on the end.Is that the color of the harness in question in this pic????

The first plug on the left goes to the igniter, the other one looks to be for the boost solenoid and is not needed to be pluged in.
The second pic, its the oil pressure sensor plug, its located right above the oil filter.

Second plug is Starter Solenoid Oil Pressure sensor is a snap lock plug with a boot over it

Big one I think its the OBD type crap for hookin up a computer to it for Trouble shootin. (I cant remember what i unhooked mine from)
little one dont know the 180SX's dont have anything pluged up to them

ok..while were on this thread and I'm totally Hi-jacking:drama: - What happens to the 3 Harness' that are Marked "behind pass headlight".Splice into what???
Our cars (US KA) don't have a hook up (3 female harness' hooked to Relay box) for those like the Silvia Does.
My SR swap came w/ the Relay boxes and was still plugged in (relay boxes were smashed) but Harness' are good.

The little one you have circled is normaly wraped to the harness I think its two wires one is Blue with a white strip and the other one is black? Its a special use wire not needed for running the SR

Big white plug - ATC, automatic transmission control unit, legs off the ECU harness. Not needed in manual car.
Small gray two pin plug - Looks like the ABS wheel sensor, again not needed.
I'm truly in awe at the level of ignorance. Half of you guys did auto->manual swaps, did no one ever look at the harness? Guess not.

On my KA 5 speed swap the ATC plug looked like a small ECU plug - so that being the case - I would have never guessed the white plug on this harness would be the ATC - plus this motor set is a 5 speed.

Yeah not too sure thats for a AT, I Personally Pulled my SR M/T from my 180SX in Okinawa. and It was connected to the inside harness.
Not that many Automatic SR20DET's, I think I only saw like 2 when I was living in japan and they were in Kouki 180SX's
Plus seeing that the wire harness is a M/T Harness there of the lack of the 3 plugs for the passenger fender fender fuse box (USDM Passenger)

The TCU Plugs into the body harness under the dash. Then that plug interfaces the TCU with the ECU.
How do you know the harness was original to the Motor set or if the car wasn't 5 speed swapped in JP?

Not the actual ATC plug, the plug that joins to the two together. The ECU shares speed, tach, gear position, and other functions with the ATC.

Since I kinda of see it leaning towards a small problem I have, may I ask why my speedo wouldnt work? I wired everything up fine (apparently not) BUT my chassis was an auto chassis, and compared to my friends chassis (who's car is a manual chassis) has different plugs next to the fuse box under the hood. Am I missing a plug that I need to hook up my speedo correctly??

Look at the wire colors next time. Follow them and they will lead to the TPS which should be a 6 pin TPS plug on your harness. Make sure your throttle body has a 6 pin TPS or you might have to go and find another one. I had an automatic harness and depinned and deplugged all that BS.

Speedometer signals goes straight from the VSS to the cluster. It's after the cluster that the ECU, ATC, and ASCD units see it.

So is there anything extra that will need to be done if it is a auto harness on a 5 speed motor? Will the TPS hook up right? I assume not - so waht are my options?
I just learned that our harness is from a auto and the motor is a 5 speed!
Any help here would be awsome!
If anyone has a auto throttle body w/ TPS or just the TPS LMK!

Ok I looked at the auto harness (6 pin) TPS plug verses the 5 speed (3 pin) TPS plug
There are 3 wires on the auto plug that are the came color as the 3 wires on the 5 speed plug.
Can I just repin the 5 speed plug onto the auto harness and not use the 3 left over wires and all will work correctly?
I would look at the FSM's pin out but I do not have a FSM for the s13's ECU pin outs - if anyone has or knows where to get one - I would be much greatful!
