HI I bought an oil pressure gauge from a member. I want to know how to install it. I installed it already but it is giving me the wrong readings. Its a 4 wire system. Here is how I installed it
red : 12v source voltage
black: Ground (-)
purple: 1 wire going to electronic oil pressure sensor
orange: ?????
What is happening is I am getting 60 psi in the highway and 0 at idle, but the weird is in the highway the 60 psi would change when i turn on the light the psi goes down to 50, then I put on another load and it goes down even more.
Can anyone tell me how they wired their oil psi gauge, thanks

ground to a good source metal"
use a volt meter to check the ground source
u want to be very close to 0.0 omh anything .3+ i would change
orange should be illumation(lights)
when i had a bad ground i had zero oil pressure too at idle
and when i drove long periods of time, it would drop drop drop
til it hit zero, and it wont be working until i stop/ restart the car
fixed it with a better ground

Why dont you type up the name of the company that makes the gauge in google and maybe they'll have instructions.

I'm with importdude, you need a better ground.

Is the factory oil pressure sender accurate and trusted?
nope its junk and ends up leaking.
and by accurate do you mean when the light turns on are you fucked? yeah, pretty much.
it doesn't give you a readout like a gauge would.

So there is no point in adding an aftermarket electric oil pressure guage that connects to the factory sender.... correct?

i just tapped into my oil line off the turbo with an electrical gauge works perfectly fine

no point to using the stock sender.
no point to using autometer.
both are just as inaccurate, but when their powers combine maybe...

autometer gauges aren't jdm so they are crap? how is it inaccurate when they are relied on more than any other gauges? think about it they are the most common brand when you see the muscle cars and other v8's they usually use autometer also. im just saying thats a pretty broad statement

i've got the autometer, and just got a defi unit, both read the same pressures throughout, i'd go and get the aftermarket sending unit from autometer and that'll make the readings correct

exactly, the autometer unit doesn't just happen to show what it should on five different gauges

i was stating that i changed it out with the defi unit as well and they read the same

Where are you guys installing the sensors? I was thinking I'll just replace the shitty stock one with the shitty gauge I just got, no need for the stock one really. now to find out thread pitches and how I'm gonna do it, lol.

I installed mine in the stock location. Had to use some different NPT to BSPT adapters though.
Make sure your battery is all good. When my battery was starting to die both of my electronic gauges read horribly wrong.
If your battery is good then you are getting bad ground or bad power.

They are both 1/8" right, just different threads?
friend of mine knows some folks at a machine shop or something, just have to tell him the right thing to pick up.
I'm gonna get a tomei oil adapter block thing in the future, just need a solution for now.

Do all mechanical guages have a supper crappy, thin, hard white plastic tube that carries the oil to the guage, or is mine just extra crappy?
I'm very nervous that the 1/8 tube could break or become punctured, causing a motor fatality...
anyone else know what i'm talking about?

Yeah that's like the super cheap/old school mechanical style gauge. Try to get one with an electric sensor...

Yes all mechanicals do have a thin tube. Get an autometer electronic for 50 or so dollars. Use an adapter from Nissport and is an adapter that tips to the stock sender location. Clean and easy and please tighten the hex caps on the sides when you buy and all products are CNC'ed. Nissport is awesome and no I don't work for them.
