alright guys i dropped my motor, and i tried starting it and it ended up getting me a LOUD backfire, like massively loud. My auto tech teacher tells me that i have my timing 180 degrees off. My question is, can i just pull the CAS out, pull my valve cover off (to check for TDC), crank my motor back to TDC on cylinder one, and re-install the CAS??? would this fix my timing issue??? or is there another way that i should be doing this??? rep will be given for legitamite advice...thanx guys

You need to pull the valve cover off and roll the engine over to TDC. Grab the FSM or download it and make sure your CAMs are pointing in the right direction. The cam gears will be marked and they should point to about 1 o'clock and 10 o'clock.(I believe.) If your Cams are ok, them pull the CAS and make sure that you install it properly.

If your Cams are not in the proper position when the engine is at TDC then make sure your set the Cams properly and install the CAS. Once everything is back to together you will need to do a compression test and make sure that the incorrect timing did not result in a bent vavle.

yeah i've heard of people getting it 180° off. you can use the below link to follow the correct procedure. i've personally used this and it works great. i just timed my engine recently and everything works perfect.

yeah pull the valve cover and make sure everything lines up. don't rely on just one writeup. use the FSM in combination with the below link.

**EDIT**

lol i know you have the same FSM as me so look at EM-28 and 29. this should def get you all lined up. let us know if that was the problem.

Nice find. Another great tool is the SR Cam Alingment Procedure on Rascing service Enthalpy. http://www.rs-enthalpy.com/

I like these instructions because you can verify by counting the teeth on the gears since the possibilty of your chain links lining up are like .000000000000001.

sweet...i dont get to see my car until tuesday so i wont be able to make sure, im pretty sure i got my cams in the right way though, all the links lined up and everything, would it matter if i got my first cylinder at exhaust TDC...? if not then yeah i probably fucked it up...hopefully i didnt bend a valve haha, thanx for the advice man...
