hey guys i had a few questions about rebuilding the SR20det's bottom end. the bottom end that i am getting has one piston with the edge chipped off (ring land snapped?) i was thinking on possibly just getting a used piston for that one cylinder and replacing the rings on all 4 (this option looking the best so far, but wondering what rings i should get..just oem?) I am only looking to get about 300whp so I dont see a need in getting forged internals. But I was thinking about just doing new oem pistons since i would have everyting apart... anyhow i was looking at courtesyparts.com nd saw that there are quite a few piston choices (just wondering if anyone knew the differences (grade #'s and the vvl one) looks like the vvl one is the cheapest...

go find a FSM, it will explain to you how to find out which one you need.

VVL I think has a different dish design on the top of the piston since its compression is setup for a different head (like the difference between ka24e and ka24de pistons)

thats what i thought about the vvl piston... looks like it would be higher compression... i just didnt think there was a difference in the other 2, but perhaps there is?

your best bet is to talk to the people over at SR20forum since they are more likely to have had a VVL in their car or have had done a rebuild.
