Hi guys,
This is a stretch but I do know we have IT guys on the board, I would like to seek your advice before i reformat.
I have a newer HP something (LOL) its got Vista Home, came with Norton, and I added Kaspersky AV.
Since I added Kaspersky everything was still working fine until it was time to download updates for Vista. Since the Vista update I have been unable to use IE 7 to connect to the web, during this time my firefox still worked and I have no problem connecting to AIM or Torrents.
Since my firefox required a flash plug-in i did the update and since than I can no longer connect to the web via firefox or IE 7.
Altho all the web browsers took a dump I am still able to use AIM.
Does anybody know wtf happened?
I checked my firewall on Vista, it says I still have Symantec Internet Security although I already uninstalled the program. I found the folder under Program Data rather than Program Files. How do I get rid of this lingering software? is this whats blocking my connection to the web?
This issue seems to be firewall related.
VISTA EXPERTS PLEASE HELP
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

if norton internet security is still present because of a bad uninstall, that's probably the reason your internet is blocked
try to run this program to clean ALL norton products and see if this helps

if you end up having to reload the operating system, all the new HP computers come w/ a built in recovery partition. you can start the process by hitting the appropriate key (i think it's F11) at the HP splash screen when the computer is first powered on.

wow another for both of us. i got the same thing when i tryed to remove it, it told me i didnt have permission. When i did get norton off it still wouldnt let me connect. the update changes some registery keys. I belive this is what messes it up. you should call windows i bet they will fix the update.

I would try MS Vista System Restore first. This will allow you to reverse registry and other settings from a previous date that it was working fine. This way you can trace as to which update/software cause the issue. Link below might be helpful. GL!

+1
vista will be good at some point, but right now too many issues. Eventually I will be running vista 64 with 8gb of ram but right now xp. It was the same thing when xp first came out. I ran 98 until it was stable.
Not a fan of windows or xp it's just xp is the best alternative out there for 99% of PC users.
How much memory do you have? I have heard vista runs like crap if you don't have 4gb. Not that that will fix your problem just an fyi.

You know that they pulled SP1 for Vista because of issues after update.
Is Norton still listed in add/remove programs??

To be honest, it may have not been a Symantec issue at all. The program (.MSI) that is used for install/uninstall belongs to Microsoft. If when you uninstalled Norton AV and somthing for the firewall got left behind, this could cause all kinds of problems. By using the SymNRT, you just completed what the .MSI failed to do properly in the first place.

I'm with you on that one. I got a free copy of vista and I still run xp mce on all my machines. It just isn't worth the headaches and I got them all just the way I want them.
As far as that norton stuff...it is a huge pita and causes more problems than it solves. Once you finally get rid of norton's crap get AVG anti-virus/AS. I've had to fix so many computers for friends and customers and once I clean it out I install AVG/AVG AS/Spybot S&D. No problems on any of the ones that update and actually run the programs.

Dunno why everyone trips over vista. The majority of the problems that come from it involve people using dated hardware. If you update your hardware to something that's supported by vista, it works pretty well. I've had zero problems with my vista machine.
I find myself proven right every day I'm at work, customers keep bringing me their vista machines complaining that their computer is slow running 512mb of RAM. There are some quirky bugs, but really nothing that's not fixable; and they are pretty far and few. *shrug*
Call me lame for not jumping on the "fuck vista" bandwagon, but I don't think its the nightmare that everyone says it is.

Good to see this wasn't an issue with Vista, but rather Norton software. I'm not a big fan of Norton applications and I'm glad you switched to Ksapersky.
As for Vista, its not horrid and the x64 edition running on my laptop is just fine.

My laptop came with vista from the factory, 2gb ram, 1.8ghz centrino dual core. I have had nothing but problems with Vista. Windows Update doesnt even work on my computer.
