I heard a noise coming from the engine today as my windows were down and my stereo was blaring so I turned down the stereo and listened more. When I got home, i put the car in nuetral and revved the engine gently untill i heard the noise again. @ 1800, 2500 and 3000 rpms there is a rattling noise that comes from the engine bay. What could this be? I drive a 95 Manual 240

Most likey a loose heatshield or the upper timing chain guide, but in my case it was the crankshaft bearing that had gone bad.

Dude, exact same problem pretty much at the same rpms.
Im probably 99% sure it the heat shield. Take it off, its useless anyways but make sure you dont cut any wires with the edges, especially the O2 sensor(its really close

u better hope it is a heat shield
i had the same noise that sounded like it came from the head. in realality, it was a rod bearing. dont full around with this. find out what it is as soon as possible. or it may be too late.

Thanks for the info, if it is the rod bearing then how much will it cost to replace?

i had the same problem, but mine was the headers. One of the bolts were loose and letting out a lil bit of air or w/e. But my lazy butt didn't fix it and the bolt completely came off and the header warped. NOw the bolt doesn't line up with the Head ::sigh:: car sounds like a Lawn mower.

When i took my car in they gave me a quote... itll cost about 1000-1500 to take out engine, rebuild/repair, and put it back in. If you buy an engine itll cost about 500 and to put it in and all will cost you about another 500. So maybe a rebuild would be better then buying a used engine...
