ok, heres the deal:
I filled up at a shady gas station about two weeks ago. Right after I fueled up, I got on the highway, merged into traffic and was cruising at about 80MPH when I felt a hesitation. It felt as if the car was running out of fuel, the more i pushed on the throttle the more power the engine lost. After a minute it settled and the problem went away.. I figured there might have been some sediment that I pumped into the tank from the seedy gas station which was clogging the fuel filter and figured I would replace it the next day.
I go out to my car the next morning and it won't start. The engine turns over and over but it just won't crank. I let it sit for a few hours and came back to try it again. I turn the key and immediately it starts (quicker than normal, as if fuel was already in the cylinder)...
So i drive it to the auto parts store and pick up a z32 fuel filter. I try to start the car after I walk out of the store, no luck. Engine turns over and over, and I notice a faint smell of fuel. So i decided to change the filter right there in the parking lot. Swap the filter out and replace the lines with new ones, get in the car and it starts right up.. So I figure the reason why it wasn't starting was a clogged fuel filter. case closed.
As I'm driving the car later that day, I notice that the fuel pump is whining louder that it usually does and my idle is up around 1200RPM (without the A/C on) Try to start the car again later in the day and it won't start again. Let it sit for a few hours and try it again, this time i have to push the throttle so that the engine doesn't die.. but it eventually evens out and idles.
Went to school tonight, parked the car, came out after class and it wont start again but smells like fuel though.
So, does this sound like a fuel problem I'm having? Do fuel pumps just stop working or do they work intermittently until they eventually die? The fuel pump fuse is fine.
any ideas/insight?
