View Full Version : I want that flush look with MB Weapons...

Sooooo, I have these new tires I got for super cheap. They are 245/40/17 and 275/40/17. I'm going to be getting the MB weapon rims but, i don't know which offset I should be getting. I know nothing about tires. I'm not looking for anything "wild" that you would see in the "wheel fitment whore thread" but, I'm not looking for battleships either. I have a S13 hatch. I just need to know what dimensions i need to have a nice flush look. So, fill in the question marks for me:
Front 17 x ? +?? offset
Rear 17 x ? +?? offset
I know I'm going to need a fender roll...what else will i need? thanks everyone!

17x9 +17 is the usual size people get for mb's

if you're willing to roll the fenders you might as well just look through the fitment whore thread and find a 17" wheel with a tire size the same/as close as possible to yours and copy their wheel size, since there is a difference between rolling and pulling fenders. (rolling is much less involving)
p.s. it's spelled "equilibrium";)

fyi i am running 18x9.5 +20 front and rear... 235/40 in front and 255/35 in rear. i had to roll and pull slightly in the rear and hammer/ roll in front as well and they still rub sometimes in front. i also had to run a 5mm spacer in front. you wont need longer studs as offset has no effect on that un less you run a spacer of more than 5mm IMO. 255 is alot of tire for the rear... looks non stretched... 235/40 is about the max that you can run in the front, or thats the size aspeclogan recommended to me.
what i think you should do: run the 245 in the rear... sell the 275's or trade them for a set of 235's for the front. while im sure you could run those tires somehow/ someway... it just may not be worth the work in the end. this is just my opinion and feel free to take it for what its worth.

i like your opinion becuause it will probably save me money and a headache in the future. I think ill do what you have. 255 in the rear and then my 245 in the front.
the only reason i got all 4 tires is because i got them for $30 a tire:eek: ...brand new. I'll see if i can get one of those high HP people to pick up my tires.
i see your from jacksonville...i lived there for 20 years. I'm in Orlando now.

im running 235/45/17 on a 9 and its not stretched at all, it is pretty fat =(
275 on a 9'' would leave you with tire bulge leaving you with less tire contact ~9.5 should be square
255 on 9'' looks pretty square from the pics I've seen

235/45 would look "full" on a 9j wheel, where as a 215/45 would be streched and give you a little more room.

I run a 275 on a 9.5 and its basically square, if not SLIGHTLY stretched. Running the 275 on a 9 is not a big deal at all, and can still be considered a proper fit.
A 235 on a 9 is stretched. Not a lot, but enough to notice.
I guess what i'm trying to say is, if you have fender room to put the 275 on there, DO IT. If you are more concerned with looks than traction, or are too tight on room, go with a smaller tire. It all depends on what your priorities are. (ie: traction, looks, fitting under stock fender, etc.)

lol i've never seen someone get wheels depending the sizing of thier tires. 275 will look like shit for a 9 esp if your trying to get that "flush" look. It'll just look like your down for drag racing. But it also depends on which make and model of tire you got.

why is everybody running 45's
235/40 federal 595 on a 9 is butter; almost square, and what i feel would be an "appropriate" size for a 9
215/40 federal on a 595 is mildly stretched
this all depends on what tires you run.

are you guys kidding by saying 235 on a 9" is square?????????????? 235 is a stretch, dont make me go take pics of it on my car to prove it...the sidewall leans in. 235 on an EIGHT inch wheel is square.
right now i have 235 all the way around, on 8" front 9" rear (sux i knowz), and on the 8" wheel its definately square. I also used to have 225's on the 8" and it was also pretty square, but 215's would start to show the stretch for sure.
god i hate you wheel / tire whores !! :) the average car guy thinks 9" +22's have a nice lip!

that's because everyone here (or at least 90% of people) stretch the hell out of tires. i mean come on, a 215 on a 9 inch rim? that's just stupid. i think even a 235 looks tight on a 8 inch rim. 8's get a 245 and 9's get either a 245 or 255, at least on my rims lol

I had MB Competitions and ran a 215/40 (+27, pre +17 era) and 15mm spacer up front for clearance reasons and ran a 235/40 out back...235 is the way to be if you're running a KA, any wider is kind of a waste cuz you'll never break traction anyways lol

I honestly don't think 235s on an 8 inch wheel are square.
When you talk about the rim's width, most rims' advertised width is from where the bead of the tire sits on 1 side, to the other.
Most of the time, the actual lips of that said wheel is 1" wider.
So a 9" rim is actually only 9" wide from 1 bead surface to the other, while it's actually 10" across from the outside lip to the inner lip.
So, for an 8" rim, it's actually 9" across from lip to lip.
9" * 25.4mm/1" = 228.6mm
And since nobody makes a 228 tire, or 230 tire, the 235 section width is the closest to being sqaure. A wide 225 would also be square on an 8" wheel.
So for those looking for a square tire on the front of the car, and not looking to be flush or dumped, 8" up front with a 235/40 would be perfect.

FINE, pics tomorow....that pic you posted is pretty realistic...slight stretch with 245 on 9", so 225 on 8" should be a tiny bit less strech (5mm, or 2.5mm on outside). Notice how the wheel sticks out a little bit from the sidewall in your pic? == tiny stretch.
Personally I dont think you can have too big a tire, so what if you cant break it loose with your engine? More tire = more lateral g's!!
But if you're into drifting then maybe the stretch is a good thing!

S14, with no camber adjustment, so it has a bit too much for flat tire wear (unless you really beat on it more than you drive it (aka not a daily driver))
In the back (hehe)
with 17x9 +22 and 235/40/17 tires I had to roll the lip of the fender.
with 17x9 +22 and 255/40/17 tires I'll have to finish rolling the lip completely flush (hehe didnt have to with the 235's) and probably push it out a tiny bit.
Pretty sure that with 255's rolling the lip up completely isnt quite enough.
In the front
with 17x8 +22 and 225/45/17 tires I didnt have to do anything
with 17x8 +22 and 235/40/17 tires I still don't have to do anything
sooo with +17 offset you need 5mm more clearance on the outside, and 7mm with +15, so you'll be really close with the lip rolled all the way up.
either way get a fender roller and it will be a piece of cake to fit even the 18x9 +15's with 255 tires.
