I purchased a 240sx about 2 weeks ago as my first car. I bought new tires and took it to a shop to have them mount and balanced. The shop I took it to was having issues changing the tires because of the stupid lug nuts not wanting to come off. So I took it home for about 3-4 days and sprayed liquid wrench on and around the inside of the nuts every night then I brought it back. They were able to get 3 wheels off and didn't put one nut back on, on each of the three wheels because they were that much of a pain. This car has two different styles of tuner lug nuts on it. It has the oversized hex key one and the 9 spline one as well. Three of them are hex key style and one is 9 spline style on each wheel. They left the 9 spline ones off.

Fast forward to last weekend after even more spraying they still weren't about to get the last wheel off and in the process the key to the 9 spline lug nuts broke in half (they forewarned me of this possibility but i told them to proceed). Now. Ive been searching high and low for another 9 spline lug key but I just cant find it. I can find 5,6,7,8, and 10. But not 9..

What are my options?

p.s. What should I use to get the screws holding down the ecu off..they feel like Hercules himself put those damn things on.

You should figure out what brand of 9 spline style lug nut that is

Then find out how you can get a replacement key

Most tire shops should have all the adapters to most typical tuner lugs and common lugs (McGard, etc)

I'm guessing that the key to the 9 spline lug nut wasn't supposed to be impacted, which probably is why the key broke (besides the fact that the lug nut was on there tight)

As far as the screw holding the ECU down, isn't it a bolt? If so just use a socket to get it off. Otherwise if its stripped just drill it out.

i dunno, if i were you i would just say fuck it. blast the shit out of the original lug nuts/studs (drill them out), and just throw some new studs in with normal lug nuts.

beacuse, well that would be easier.

Ive searched for hours on the internet, Ive called/drove around to various stores but no luck. I was told that this is an older style. Unfortunately, theres nothing by a name on anything..just the numbers "R09" on the top of the key.

By any chance, would that work?

Just a thought...

gogo gadget acetelyne torch.

unless you've got painted alloy wheels, then you're gonna wanna go with drill and air chisel.

Drill it out and put new lugs in. Its easy just takes a little while.

yea, the lug nuts?

you can get lug nuts anywhere.

kragens, autozone, junkyard.

or if you're balling get some dope aftermarket ones.

if you decide to destroy both the studs and lug nuts to get the wheel off, studs are like a dollar each, and easy to put in.

I found that a 3/8" hex key fits in there, pretty tight.

end thread/

i had a similar situation when i got my koop. freakin dude had honda thread pitch lugs on there. i had to break em off and replace all studs and locks... it was for the better new studs > old rusted ones, new locks> old crappy ebay ones...

Any shop could do that for me right? Not really something that a specialty I guess you could say..I would try it myself but all I have is a hammer, not tools. Sounds like I should get new studs as well if I let a shop do it.

edit: Btw I went to Autozone today. They had the same one I have but 10 Spline, not 9. Thanks though

You guys are all wrong.

You're supposed to take a 12-gauge shotgun and blast stubborn lug nuts to pieces. Show them who's boss.

Thought id ask..do the open acorn lugs end up being harder to take off after awhile vs te closed acorn ones? I just bought plain ones for now but I had to mix and match since they didnt have 16 of either.
