I live in california. I don't have a 240sx but i would like to get one sometime in the future. Specifically I'm thinking about getting a 93 240sx SE fastback. What sort of modifications can be made to the engine or to the car that would still be able to pass the smog/emissions test. I've read articles on successful 240sx/SR20DET(jap spec) engines swaps in CA cars that are daily driven. I've also heard that the SR20DET swap for a street car is illegal in CA. Anyone have some info on this? I'd like to know whether all the energy i'm investing to plan a monster 240sx ride is not going to be in vain.

And if the SR20DET swap is not legal, does anyone have on what sort of mods on a stock KA24DE would still pass the smog test and/or BAR referee. Turbo?

ALL mods to your car MUST be CARB approved and have a sticker to prove it. Cuttently only some Intakes and headers are legal there...No turbos or engine swaps..

sr swaps are illegal anyhere in the u.s. for street cars.... if you're going for carb legal, check with greddy stuff, most of them are carb legal...
