I was reading my codes on my ECU. and I threw the TPS sensor code.

I have an sr20det.
I noticed whenever I would push down the gas pedal there would be a second delay and then the rev's would raise.

So I went ahead and assumed it was the TPS sensor.
Now I read the FSM on how to adjust it.

iirc. the TPS sensor should be at a .5volts when the throttle is closed.

I pulled out my multimeter and took some readings, along with some pictures.

These are the reading with the car turned on. from the female connector.

Those should be accurate readings from the wiring harness to the TP sensor itself.
Continuity still exists on the ground wire, even when the car is shut off. so thats a good sign.

No matter how much I try adjusting the tps sensor, the most volts I can get is .20
Does this mean the TPS sensor is bad?

I just need a few second opinions before buying a new one.

Bump.
Where exactly do I put the mulimeter probes to get the reading so I can set it to .5 volts???

You're doing it backwards. You need to be measuring from the sensor itself. May be a help to get another set of hands to move the butterfly while you hold the test leads to the appropriate pins.

yeah you need to be reading from the the sensor side. right now you're just probing the harness which isnt helping you.

I just probed the harness to make sure I was getting the correct amount of power from the ECU to the sensor.

Anyone know what pins to put the multimeter probes at?

ooking into it, centre tag on rh side
top =ground
centre=signal
bottom=5v+ supply

i'll double check but i think with the tps plugged in and probing through the sheathing with the ignition on the on position, one wire should be power, the other ground, and the other the ~0 to ~5.0 volt reference.

if i'm lucky, the car's got an safc2 i go to "sensor check" option, with the throttle fully closed i see .43 or so volts, then at wide open throttle it's like 4.42 volts on a healthy car. sometimes i see .23 - 4.1.

so probe the wires going to it with it plugged in and see what you get on the sensor wire (should be white or green) with it closed get the voltage as closed to spec as possible, and at WOT see if it's within fsm spec, and that's how u should adjust it/know if urs is bad

^That helps alot,

Let me go outside and recheck.

I'll update with the readings in a few mins

I love tech questions from good forum members... lots of pics, good descriptions, and direct questions. +1 for quick responses also.

I took out the TPS sensor itself from the TB to manually inspect it.

As it was out of the car, I set the multimeter to measure the ohms. Seems like there is very small amount of power even coming out from the sensor itself. Even when I turn the crank handle, the voltage does not go past .20.

I took out the clip for the sensor and drove the car around the block.
Drove the exact same, as it did when the sensor was plugged in.

I'm ordering a new one from nissan, and throwing this one in the junk:

Hope this thread can help anyone else with the same problem...

it's better check your sensor on the ecu side. just like with the tps there is a slight voltage drop from the sensor to the ecu. w

i would say back probing i noticed you did harness side but not sensor side..right now your checking to see if harness is good which i believe is good now you need to back prob with female connector pluged in to see if your producing the right reading with the aid of throttle plate PM if you need help

I did back probe through the rubber sheet.
For future reference.
Far left is 5v, middle is signal,far right is ground.

I back probed it, and turned the TPS sensor. Most I can get was .20Volts.

TPS should have +.45V coming into the ECU and +5.0V going to it. Check for ~+.45V at closed throttle and ~+5.1V at WOT...CHECK AT THE ECU PLUG, not at the sensor.

when i checked min i kept the TPS plugged in and used my voltmeter leads to probe into the pins with everything hooked up and adjusted it that way. worked great eve3r since.
