Well I have come to the point where my S14 needs needs new t/c rod bushings. The OOOZE was on my driveway. I was looking at the Whiteline T/C Rod Bushings from PDM-racing.
I wanted to know how hard the installation of the bushings are. Do they just push into the tension control rod or are special tools required??

when i worked at nissan i would keep all the old t/c rods i replaced on customers and pressed out the old ones for fun. you would need a press. i think some people have done it by drilling out the old bushings and or burning and then knocking out the remaining sleeve

You can do it with a vice and various round bits if you need to. The new bushing will go in easier than the old ones come out. It's work but it isn't exactly brain sugery either. Just take your time.
I'm working on a write up for this but if you want to see the pics in the meantime go here (http://www.mindspring.com/~gulag13/WLinstall/)
I have a press but I did the first side with a vice in order to do the write-up (most folks won't have a press). If you have a press, or a buddy with a press, save youself a lot of aggravation and use it.

Replicant_S14, great pics. The pics came out very nice. I hope you get the write-up done soon cause those pics sure could use some text. Let me know once you get it done. PM (private message) or email at

I though I would chime in with another set of pictures:
TC bushings (http://importnut.net/240pics/bushings/page_01.htm)
I thought about doing a write-up, but these pics seem self explanatory.
Just wanted to toss in another perspective.

importnut, also some nice pics. So you used a drill to take out the old bushings? How difficult was that? I wish I had a press to push in the new ones! I will be looking and my options and then order the new bushings.

Yeah, a drill to cut out enough rubber to knock out the middle. Then a saw to cut the ring. You need to be careful not to score the TC rod. It could lead to problems. I let the saw do it's work with no pressure and waiting until the ring popped.
You don't need a press. The vise that Replicant_S14 used is perfect if you don't have a hydraulic press. I just so happen to have one at my disposal at the time.

Here's your write-up (http://www.240sx.org/atlanta/TC_bushing_install.htm)
It's still kinda rough but I made myself at least start it last night.
