On a scale of 1 to 5 how difficult would you say this would be? I just purchased a 96 240sx with 103k miles. I know your suppose to replace the chain at 100k but I'm strapped for money so having the dealer do it would take me a long time to save up for. The most I've done was install I/H/E. I don't need this car for work yet so I could take my time for it but I was hoping it wouldn't take a newbie more than a weekend to do?

I did my upper chain. With out help from some one who's done it before it was difficult to gt the timing right but doable. Definitely better than spending upwards of 600 for my head gasket to be done by a mechanic.

I'm at 150k with the original chain. Just make sure the guides are out and the tension is good.

Depends how much wrenching experience/confidence and tools you have. Read up on the FSM, it should give you a good idea of what's involved.

well you have to take the head off, and the front cover. if you can do that, it should be prety easy. took me about 1 hour on a sr with the motor out. and it took me all day to do it in a ka24e. because i pulled the motor.

On a scale of 1-5 this topic has been discussed to a level 5.
Take Mano's advice, read the FSM, search the tech section, and then look at your own skill and determine how difficult it's going to be for yourself with your experience.
