View Full Version : s14 arms on Z32 spindles?

I'm about to do a z32 spindle swap onto my S14 along with aftermarket RUCA, tension, toe arms; so my question is when I buy those arms, do I still buy the S14 arms or do I have to buy the Z32 arms?

so to boil down the questions, will S14 arms fit directly on Z32 spindle? Thanks

as far as i know the only difference will be for your coilovers which have a different bottom mount but i could be wrong and the arms might be different too.

thanks, yeah, the coilover bottom mount for z32 is a fork. But, what about the arms?

same arms.
yes.

I asked because when I tried ordering some s14 arms, the parts number for S13 and z32 is the same but the s14 has different part number so i assume S14 arms are different then S13 and Z32. So why do they have different part# for S14?

Double check your bushings.

Although I have R34 Spindles, I had to change the traction arm bushing on the spindle, due to the HICAS setup

Kuah at SPL has all the bushings you need.

You will need different uprights as well.

Z32 forks and S chassis forks are different.

^^ why do I need to check my bushing?

i already got the z32 coilover fork lower bracket. I just wondering if the S14 arms can be use with Z32 spindle or not. please keep the comments coming. thanks

You're talking about the upright piece correct?

Upright, spindle, knuckle, etc.

Yes they're the same for the arms, only the shock mounting is different. You're S14 hub will bolt right into the upright. I know cause I was going to do this swap but decided against it cause i don't drift. Doing this affects the weight balance the wrong way IMO.

IIRC the only difference is when you have HICAS as opposed to no-HICAS.

Just curious but why are you doing this swap anyways?

thanks for the help guys, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Z32 non-HICAS spindle/knuckle will bolt directly onto S13 or S14 and you still can use all the arms perfectly. Like if I have S14 I can buy all the S14 arms and still be able to bolt it onto the Z32 spindle/knuckle. the only difference is the coilover mounting bracket.

Why is doing this affects the weight balance the wrong way? more front bias heavy?

I'm doing this for weight reduction and to use Z32 ebrake because I'm going to do Z32 front/rear brake swap.

Any thing I should know before doing this big project? thanks

well you will save some weight on the upright, but it wll be gained again with the new brakes.

Well yeah. The S13/S14 ones are iron, as oppsed to aluminum. Big weight difference. And yes you are subtracting from the rear end weight making it weigh even less than it already does when compared to the front.

And you don't need the uprights to swap in the 300ZX ebrake. The only thing the Z uprights give you is less weight and the different shock mounting configuration, that's it.

Honestly a waste of money IMO. But to each his own.

/QUOTE]

I don't know if the z32s came with a HICAS option...but...

Where you would put traction rod, there might be a bushing for a tie rod end.

just check to make sure it is all good.

thanks for all the insights. So in a big grand scheme, I already have the z32 spindle with ebrake so doing that will lighten the rear, but in the future I'm thinking of doing front carbon hood so then it will balance out front and rear right? please give me more insight.

IIRC,
Z32TT is hicas NA isn't

can I use the z32 ebrake with S14 spindle?

You want to use the following to retain S14 spindles on a S14:

R33 E-brake cables

Z32 Backing plate with e-brake hardware

and S14 Spindles

Z32TT spindles are ok to use, but the hubs are not.

The S14 axle will not match up with the Z32TT hub.

I think I have a z32 NA spindle. but just to make sure, how do you know the difference b/t TT and NA

By measuring the ID of the hub and the OD of the axle.

I leave for five days and this shit comes up. You guys all fail.

The TT and NA uprights are identical except the TT uses a ball joint in place of the toe arm bushing, since all TT models came with HICAS. You'll need to press it out and install a bushing.

The arms do not change when swapping the upright, whatever you have will continue to work fine. In fact, the toe and traction arms are all the same for S13, S14, S15, Z32, R32, R33, R34, and the J30. Only the camber arm is different, going from a full hoop to a half hoop on the S14, S15, R33, R34, and J30. Ebrakes are as mentioned, Z32, R32, R33, R34 are all the same, use R33 cables for the S14 chassis.

We've all known this for well over ten years.

man you're a wealth of knowledge. thanks.

yeah, I know that the S14 RUCA is half loop, but they can still fit onto z32 spindle?

another thing is, do I have to use R33 ebrake cable? is there anyway I can use z32 ebrake cable? since I already have the z32 ebrake cable. thanks

You can still use Z32 cables but for an S14 they're too short. You have to lengthen them by about 4 inches IIRC.

I was able to find some e-brake extenders on eBay a couples years back. Made by some no name company, but they're designed to simply adapt the Z32 e-brake cable to the S14 e-handle and T-bar. I still have them for when I do the rear brake swap.

You can try to look around and see if anyone sells adapters for this project. Cutting the Z32 cables and re-splicing them to your existing S14 cables is a major PITA and I could never get it to work right so that the e-brake would actually hold the car. Couldn't get them tight enough.

I'm not going to bother posting if no one is going to bother reading. All the rear spindles will swap between chassis. S13, S14, S15, R32, R33, R34, Z32, J30, Q45. The Q45 uses the aluminum upright like the TT with HICAS, the J30 has a pressed in hub instead of a bolt on, and the Skylines with HICAS have the ball joint as well, but they all interchange. The location/placement of the arms does not change.

Again, well documented for years.
