i'm just curious to know if someone has a handy trick to swaping out a thermostat without having to drain all the coolant? that is all.

I'm not a pro by anymeans but it seems impossible IMO.

I don't think that there is, unless you want to just disconnect the pipe and see how much doesn't come out

You do know how a thermostat works right?

You have two choices...

1. Drain the coolant, then swap the thermostat, refill the coolant, bleed the system.

2. Remove thermostat first, flood the ground and possibly yourself with coolant, spend 20 minutes cleaning up the mess you just made, swap in new thermostat, fill the system with new fluid, since you can't reuse the old stuff that is now poisoning the environment, and bleed the system.

Your choice.

Ohhh wait, I got it.

Option 3. Swap the thermostat in a Zero Gravity environment! That shouldn't be too tough to find.

obviously i know how the "NORMAL" way of swaping out the thermostat. i was just hoping there was maybe a shortcut that someone out there knew. like what if you pinch the lower hose? how much fluid would come out of the block?

With the amount of effort you're putting into finding a shortcut, you could've had the thing swapped already, THE RIGHT WAY.

i know this is irrelevant, but i know how you can change the oil drain plug with a drop of oil coming out. it's pretty cool.
