I have some stock cams that i have had stored over time, but they have some surface rust on them and im wondering if there is a way/trick to get it off. i had them wrapped in some plastic with oil but i guess oil kinda just went to one side, so on side is smooth and the other is rough.

first question is why do you want to put these cams in?

you could take it to a machine shop and have them polish it for you or use this and polish it yourself.

the right way to do it would be to use micro abrasive sandpaper.

Ive cleaned rusted cams in worse condition than that and they came out looking like new. Just use a SOS pad under water.

WD40, a rag and can of man or a dremel with the polishing bit would be a quality substitute if you're all out of man..

use a scotch brite and WD-40. should come off pretty easily.

I deal with alot of surface rusted crap being a Motor T mech on Okinawa... A little bit of oil and some rubbing goes along way.

just take it to an engine builder, they have a belt sanding maching where they just put it on a slowly rotating lathe setup, then use this belt sander to polish it. it will take like 1 minute.

the least abrasive method is electrolysis, all you need is a battery charger, washing soda, bucket of water, and a sacrificial steel rod.

yeah i'd go with this method (or WD40) first. i never liked the idea of taking material off a cam (like polishing with sandpaper, etc. etc.) would do...ive seen the smallest imperfections ruin a cam.:2f2f:
