How did you figure out that it is a code 903.

I picked up the code 93 by un-bolting the ECM and maually switching to diagnostic mode II, and then counting the long flashes(x10) and the short flashes (x1) of the "service engine soon" lamp on the dash-board.

It's a '97 240sx se, with intake and exhaust.

Thank you very much for the reply, just wanted to see if we're on the same page, because I didn't think the DTC #s went up that high. If I understood the nissan fact serv manual correctly that would mean that it would have to flash 90 times for 0.6 seconds followed by 3 times for 0.3 seconds, but it only did 9 (x0.6) sec flashes and 3 (x0.3) sec flashes. I reset the computer and it triped the service engine soon light the third time I started the engine after that, so it doesn't seem to be an intermittent problem...It's driving me nuts.

I called nissan, and they basically told me that if I was a nissan technician they could tell me what the code 93 was, but since I'm not, I should just pay someone to fix it.

Thanks for your help...I REALLY appreciate it.

OK you can call me at 860-833-7004 about the parts or e-mail at [email protected], but This has been driving me crazy, so if you could let me know how you figured out that it was a code 903 rather than 93 that would be awesome to. Just because I am curious.

Thanks!

are you sure civickilla? I'm looking at the trouble codes list and I don't see a 903. And there are various EVAP codes listed, none are even close to 93/903:

74 EVAP pressure sensor
75 EVAP leak
87 EVAP canister purge control
108 EVAP volume control

oh and shaedee, what did you do to get the code?

I had to pull the mounting screws out of the Engine Control Module or computer if you like (drivers side U.S. kick panel) to access the diagnostic mode selection screw twist clockwise..wait 2 sec...twist back..(with ign. on) to put it in diagnostic mode II.. This method produces 2 and 3 digit codes, such as a 55 for no malfunction or a 103 for Park/neutral indicator. You read it by a 0.6 sec flash is = to 10, and a 0.3 sec flash is equal to 1. It gives each code three times in a row with a short pause in between long and short flashes. After 3 reps it starts a second error code, if there is one, if not it just keeps on goin' until you either delete the ECM memory by twisting the screw clockwise, waiting two seconds and back to the start position (important..don't leave clockwise), or by disconecting the battery. Or if you don't want to delete the ECM memory, just pull the key out, and start it up again, and it automatically goes back to regular pain in the ass check engine light mode for you. You can also just check the front O2 sensor, by leaving it in dianostic mode II and and starting it with out shutting the ignition of. If the "oh shit light" goes on and off again at least 5 times in 10 seconds, then your front O2 sensor should be straight.

I think 240sx.org may have this covered under FAQ, but I have the 95 FSM

AIGHT?

God DAG, good thing I don't talk this much.

PS: I think holmes replaced A perfectly good charcoal canister and he's pissed, now he want me to buy it from him, so I can replace the wrong parts just like him.

Oh...cheap cheap...let me get like 4 of 'em then!..Trust me!

I had civickilla (BSa) tellin' me that every possible code is in the FSM, but that is BS, cuz I'm 100% sure that my MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) AKA check engine light is giving me a code 93 in diagnosis mode II, and that's definitely not in the FSM.

To be honest I can't afford to pay a dealer for CONSULT diagnostics right now.

Thanks in advance

You can try taking it to an autozone... I hear they'll check it for free...

I mean what did you DO to get the code? did it just pop up all of a sudden? did you change anything in your car recently? some Nissan guys are dickheads, but where I went to was cool, I had 4 codes all at once, threw me way off.

but how is the car running? any differences? fuel consumption? bucking? misfiring? if nothing's wrong and the lights on, try disconnecting the battery terminals, that might clear it.

1995 240SX have OBD I ECU
1997 have obd 2... also the carbon canister set-up is different that the 1995 carbon canister....the 1997(OBDII) has a series of purge valves that are operated by the ECU...also the locations of the canisters are different.....this why you 1995 FSM does not have code 93/903....as far as when my ECU threw that code at me....i was just driving along and the light just came on....i didn't notice any problems with the performance of the engine with the trouble code....
