i've been trying and searching for a few days now with no luck so i'm going to go ahead and make a thread. here's my situation:

i just replaced the head gasket on my stock 96 KA. new head bolts torqued per fsm. hooked everything up cranks fine but won't even try to start. i've pulled all the plug wires and all will spark to the chassis. brand new plugs. pulled a fuel line, fuel came out when cranking, plugs smell like gas. i've restabbed the dizzy about 15 times making sure the #1 cylinder is TDC with the 2nd timing mark on the crank pulley aligned with the pin. cam lobes are facing away from each other. i just checked the codes on the ecu and got 55 meaning everything is functioning correctly and tried a different distributor, still nothing. i've completely run out of ideas and have tried everything i've found through searches to no avail. please help asap!!! in need this thing back on the road!

make sure your fuel lines aren't connected backwards, ie the fuel return line (the fuel hose without the fuel filter) always comes off the line that connects to the fuel pressure regulator.

next, check your ecu fuse by the battery.

assuming compression is good (please post #'s if you've tested it since repairing hg)

ground your test light and probe the injectors with the key in the on position verifying that the injectors are getting power.

next , connect your test light to the battery's POSITIVE terminal and have a buddy crank the motor over while you see if the other wire on the injector plug makes your test light flicker while the motor's cranking and you're probing it.

respond with your test results and we'll go from there.
