We're talking grisseled manly shit in here. Join us if you have the testicular fortitude.

After years of living in an apartment I have finally moved out into a house with my fiance....and one of the first things I did besides take over the garage is buy a grill. Now it may not be a super badass grill, but it gets shit cooked and I usually take full advantage of it.

Tonight:
Steak, sweet potatoes, fresh shrimp, blue and the Toronto Maple Leafs game on CBC.

Sometimes I watch this show called license to grill. This guy grills like 6 course meals... ALL MEAT! It's insane. The recipes always look mad tasty though. I think I'll start doing some sweet grilling this summer. Too cold right now... way to cold. Fuck.

My friends and I are all about grillin'. It's nothing fancy, but the nights are always capped off with big explosions of fire in the pit. Always a fun time.

If you ever get the chance, grill rice balls and pour soy sauce over 'em. Let 'em sizzle around then get all crispy. It's bomb!

I love grillin' with my dad because he goes all out. +rep dad. Werd.

use the dry ranch seasoning packets for a rub on steak.....it rocks. Ive also got a BOMB ASS pork tenderloin recipe that is fucking incredible. I dont see why it wouldnt work with a strip steak of some sort. I will post if when I get home.

I live in Florida, so every day is grill weather. I use it as much as possible.

Werd on that.

Grilling with gas is whack shit. It's gotta be Kingsford (it's Kingsford, as in Ford, asin the inventor of charcoal ;) ).

I grill all spring summer and fall. Obviously with 14" of snow on the ground I ain't grilling shit. I'll let you guys in on some of my secrets.

First one (I can't grill with out this now), is go buy yourself two big oval, rectangle, whatever shape plastic platters. Roughly 16" long x 8" wide, and a good 2"-3" deep. One red, and one another color (I have a blue one). Preferable sturdy, with handles. I found some for like $6 ea at Target.

The red one is for raw food only. So when you have a big mound of brats, steaks, burgers, shrimps, etc, you have a big platter to carry'em on.

Then when your done grillin everything up, you use the other color one for the cooked food.

Always use'em the same way. Helps keep down on contamination, and is just super efficient.

More to come. ;)

get an aluminum pan. dump in two bottles of Maul's barbecue sauce. add a can of busch beer. mix. throw in some pork chops. let it sit in the fridge overnight, make sure the meat is covered. barbecue that shit. it's awesome.

you can substitute with pussy beer and faggy sauce if you want, but it comes out about the same. might as well use the cheap shit.

Me and my uncles used to make our own charcoal. Cut the wood into grapefruit sized chunks and burn it until it glows and then dunk it in a bucket of water. That shit burns hotter and longer than "briquettes" and your food doesn't taste like lighter fluid.

Though my mom seems to have meat down to a science. So maybe it's just her rubs and marinades.

3 days, I didn't click on this thread because I thought it said "girl talk," I guess I can comment.

We grill year round, we even smoke our turkeys on Thanksgiving and Christmas on the grill.
It snows here, but not so much to deter us from grilling.
No propane here, NEVER owned a propane grill, never will, gimme some kingsford and some mesquite chips.

TEC now sells a cheapie high end grill at lowes for $700. It's a steal since most of their IR grills are like 3k. They're sooo easy though.. espically for those cheap burgers everyone brings to your parties that flare with grease.

don't get me wrong - there is no substitute for out door grilling. but if your apartment complex is ghey and does not allow you to have a grill, you can still "grill" without a grill at the cost of not having that charcoal/charbroiled flavor :(

there are a ton of electric grills that you can choose from like this:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/417473X41DL._AA280_.jpg

or live the broke college student lifestyle and rock a george foreman grill.

you can also go baller and mix things up with a grilled cast iron skillet:
http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/9c/a5/7776_1_b.JPG

well, not really baller - but the cooking techniques can make your food taste baller.
generally when you use a cast iron skillet for meat you just sear the meat on both sides in the skillet then you finish the meat off by placing the meat with the skillet in the oven.

tip for making your own bbq sauce: you can reduce the amount of molasses by adding peanut butter to your sauce. the peanut butter will help the sauce stick to the meat.

Hahaha. I think of myself as an honorary Canadian. I used to live outside of thousand islands in way upstate NY. Grew up watching HNIC and Mr. Don Cherry on the Coaches corner. Love the beer up there.

Yeah, I do pan-roasting quite often when I cook steaks or chicken (or boneless pork chops). I'll marinate it for a while, sear it in the pan on both sides and then finish it in the oven for a few minutes. With the pan though, it just gets so damn smoky in the apartment. One time I smoked the place up, opened the doors and windows to let it air out, and set off the smoke alarm in the stairwell outside :eek3:

yikes! i usually get a high powered fan to suck the smoke out the apartment. i have a window near my stove so the smoke gets shot right out through the fan and out the window. if thats not possible with your apartment layout then i'd opt for an electric burner and an extension chord and do all the searing outside or in the patio/deck. it sounds like a pain to go through all that trouble but desperate times call for desperate measures.

It probably wouldn't cost that much either. But Im not sure if you have to use a specific brick or something? When I own my place Ill do it for sure.

In an open space like yours it would be key, you could have mass parties out back if needed.

my beast. im thinking of trying to convert it to charcoal. I already use enough wood chips :)

my current obsession is grillied pizza from scratch. The dough is hard as fouk to get right but here is the how to that I use.

1 cup warm water
1 small packet (1 tablespoon) dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 cups all-purpose flour, use more for kneading the dough and whatnot
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Combine water and sugar in a food processor. Sprinkle in the yeast and let stand until proofed (foamy), about 10 minutes. Add oil, then the flour and salt. Process until the dough comes together and away from the sides of the processor bowl. Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface. Begin to knead until the dough is smooth and stretchy, adding more flour a tablespoon at a time, if the dough is sticky.

Lightly oil a large mixing bowl. Add the dough, turning to coat with oil. Cover the bowl with plastic and then a tea towel. Let stand in a warm, draft-free area until it doubles in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch the dough down. Knead dough in a bowl until smooth, about 2 minutes. Set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together the olive oil, vinegar, garlic....set that aside as well

Basically to cook the dough lay it out as you like *I usually form it to the grille or tear it and make circle like normal pizza* Wth the grille on low heat set dough on the grille and let it cook. The top will puff and the bottom will be crisp.......flip and load with anything you want. Wait till bottom is crisp and everything is melted on top. Take off, cut, and enjoy
