okay, the black/red wire to the coil has power when the key is in the on position. the white wire going to the power transistor has power, and then power gets sent from the transistor to the coil via the green/black wire. which is hot when connected. the ground on the coil itself is continuous with chassis ground, and the black wire of the transistor is continuous with ground as well. everything is as it is supposed to be, but i have no spark. there isnt spark at the coil-to-distributor wire either, ruling out the distributor. swapping the coil for a known working one doesnt work either. i need ideas badly, as i am drawing a blank.

Ignitor chip?

either the ignitor chip or check the distributor cap and rotor to make sure all your contacts are clean. just to be sure about those contacts, take a wire brush to them and spray in some WD-40... be light on the spray

if by ignitor chip you mean power transistor, i've tried 2 of them, one was a known working one.

and maybe im wrong, but if the dizzy was effed, then i would at least have spark right after the coil. but thats cold.

double check the wires from the ignitor to the coil. you may have a short

Yeah, if you're getting power to the ignitor, but no spark to the distributor, its the ignitor.
He already stated there's no spark coming from the coil, so the dizzy cap is fine.

yeah i know... i can't read and type at the same time... not to mention a.d.d. sucks...

if you're looking for the all-spark, you're not going to find it... it was destroyed with megatron.
j/k.... check the coil first, then follow the wires and very meticulously inspect the wires going back to the igniter.

My dad taught me a great way to troubleshoot a long time ago. He said to me, "If you're getting no output, start as far back as possible, to make sure you're getting the right input". Start at the earliest part of the circuit you can, and work your way foreward.

so this is my knowledge as where the power goes and where it comes from. 12 v to the coil via black/red wire. and 12v to the ignitor, via the white wire. the ignitor sends current to the coil via the green/black striped wire. and then the coil sends spark to the dizzy. grounds are located both in the middle of the transistor connector, and on the coil itself.
if this is correct, then i dont know where to check. as my coil is getting 12v on the black/red wire. the ignitor is getting 12v via the white wire. the black wire on the transistor (middle) is continuous with ground, and so is the coil ground. and then the green/black wire, which goes from the third terminal on the ignitor to the coil, that has power throughout. but no spark out of the coil.
that is why i diagnosed it as a bad coil/ignitor, and replaced both with known working ones, but still same exact condition.

i think it's time to bone up to buying a new ignitor and coil and stop picking up ones that are supposedly known to be working. can't always trust the homie hook-ups

but hombre, the one i had did work. i swapped in this engine, it started twice, drove it. and now no spark.

could it possibly be a bad resistor/condenser? as thats really the only thing i havent tried to replace. and its only like 5 bucks from courtesy nissan. ($8 shipping... wtf)
