View Full Version : 'sunk' exhaust after aero

I recently installed an ebay n1 style exhaust on my s13 coupe but there is a 'visual' problem with the whole look on my car. I have aero for my car and the tip on my on exhaust is a couple of inches short from my bumper. This means that if you look at my car from the side, it seems like i don't have and exhaust. I thought of a few options to fix this problem:

a. cut hangers, extend the piping on the exhaust pipe by my desired length and make new hangers to have that 'flush' exhaust

b. buy an aluminum pipe that is as large as the tip so it can be welded on the existing tip (but where can i buy a 4" alloy/stainless pipe?)

c. buy an aluminum pipe enough to wrap around the tip and bolt it on the existing silencer holes (but this might coz some rattling issues? and again, where can i buy the pipe)

i would not hesitate to alter the exhaust because a friend gave it to me (free!!!)

i would rather keep the exhaust and spend as little money as possible (don't give me that just get a new exhaust crap)

here is a pic of what im talking about:

the only exhaust that i know of with the tip extensions are the greddy ti ones.

the other tip extensions that i've only seen is not big enough to wrap around the 4" tip

just cut the pipe (id do it after teh cat) and add on whatever u need weld it up. im sure when i put on my aero i might come across this issue and thats how i was gona fix it. it wont affect the flow of ur muff.
any muffler shop can do it and it should be cheep. if not just get a new catback pipe bent thats longer. my shop only charges me 170.00 to bend up a 3'' cat back pipe. so id go this either route i suggested :)

this would be my suggestion too! or add the pipe right before the canister.

just take sheet metal and warp it around the tip and weld it.it will be like a sleeve that fit right over the muffler tip.I think tokyonights did it to his coupe and it looked fine.

if you're adding pipe then you have to cut off and reweld the hangers after the added portion

plus your muffler will be weird and sticking out far

i say extend tip...or buy a good exhaust that has a long tip

logan's exhaust has a 6.5" tip...the one i have (random japanese exhaust) has like 9" tip

i have a greddy ti exhaust and when i put on my version select aero my exhaust did the same thing. i went to my local muffler guy and he extended the exhaust right before the muffler to make it fit corretly

this thread reminds me of my car, i have a rs*r exmag with the origin stream rear. jesus! now that thing is sunk! burning the bumper everyday, but now that i don't drive the car it's all good. i have no worries. but yeah, like the guys said, just go get an extension, or since you have an ebay exhaust you can go the aspec route, the muffs he has are pretttty nice.

If u want a cheep and easy way just go to orchard in the sheet metal section, they sell some really thin sheet metal that you can bend with out it creasing. Just buy that stuff then wrap it around your exhaust, and use hose clamps to clamp it to your exhaust. I used this way to extend mine, and it looked good and only cost me 5 bucks. I even used the gold sheet metal to give me that bling look good luck

If you want your cheapest solution this is it.New mufflers and extending the piping will cost more money and be way more work.

We made it exactly for this reason.

Specifically, 240's with aero.

Shazam.

I would sell that exhaust you got for free (instead of modifying it), and getting the exhaust you want or making a custom exhaust that solves your issue

You got the exhaust for free but you don't want to man up and do it the right way?

Figures, since you're willing to run an eBay exhaust.

Sunk exhaust is cool when it blackens the rear bumper.
