View Full Version : Speed sensor advice - Not using (all of) OE Gauge cluster.

Hi,

Got a question for electrical gurus or people who have done something similar.
I am almost done with a custom gauge cluster which has defi 80mm tach in the middle and two defi 60 gauges on the sides.
I am still using the gauge cluster for fuel level for now.
The problem I am facing is this.
I am not getting a speed signal to my PFC so none to the defi display as well. I put back a spare OE cluster and when I did got the speed input back. From looking at the service manual it looks like the signal from the speed sensor goes to the cluster first and then routes back to the ecu. So when I use my custom cluster no signal get to the PFC simply cause there is nothing bridging the in and out terminals on the cluster wiring.
From the diagram below you can see what I mean.
My question is, from the diagram, can I just bridge the in/out terminal and that way get the signal back to the PFC? if so which should I bridge? Hope I was clear and thanks for the help in advance.

The speedo has a built-in converter that translate VSS pulses into a signal for the ECU.

I have no idea what signal the PFC is expecting. My advice is either stick the odo back in and hide it somewhere, or use an aftermarket driveshaft sensor.
