So I just got a power fc for cheap, but I didn't get a commander. Does any body know if you can tune it without one. Maybe a tunning shop might have a hook up? Any help would be great>
i think you need special software
Power Excel or somthing like that...specially licensed tuners will have it

You can do it yourself with a laptop and datalogit. But most tuning places can do this for you.

Yea you can definately tune it without the commander. You need a datalogit and a laptop. Not all dyno places will have the datalogit. But of course they will have a laptop. But seeing that you are in Cali, there are so many places that support the power fc so I wouldnt even bother buying the datalogit yourself. Call around to the tuning shops and see if they have the datalogit in their shop.

Let me take this chance to plug steve.
Hopefully you are so-cal local. He has everything you need to get tuned.

I would recommend getting the Commander just for piece of mind, that way you can monitor the car (it serves as a useful tool for this).
When you go to buy a commander, make sure it is a "matching part number". Apexi, being the bastards they can be, changed firmware compatibility between ecu/commanders making for a nightmare of syncing the two up at times.
Call them with your ecu # and they can give you the matching Commander number you need.
The Commander is only used for fine adjustments only. It can be used to make quick tunes but is not recommended as it takes forever and cannot access everything in the ECU. You really don't need it at all but I would pick one up if I were you.

Thanks again for all help those links are just what I needed.
And yes sideview I am rebuilding my built bored motor with some BC 264's, and some kind of crazy turbo I haven't figured out which one yet. I'm going to roll a stock setup that I'm rebuilding for a while till the monster is done. I am hoping to be making around 350-375.
