Okay, so within 1 hour of my house, I could be standing on the campuses of 4 ACC schools, but I have always been a fan of Syracuse basketball for some reason or another... Needless to say, I am a bit depressed this season, even though it seems we COULD be on the verge of another 20-win season.
Who is everyone else pulling for?
I know this thread is so late that it is actually only about 3 or so weeks early for "March Madness," but the pissing contest in the NFL playoffs thread is getting old, so I think it is time for some change of attention.
Also noteworthy is the fact that Duke/Carolina is tomorrow and it is not exactly looking good for the heels if Ty Lawson doesn't play.
Let's talk basketball

UCLA, nuff said. I wish I had more time to follow college hoops though. I usually get into once March Madness gets here.

Duke went down today and I love that fact.
Currently, UCLA is having trouble with Texas A&M

UCLA.
They're usually like this. Always push it harder at the end
of the game... to win.

I love watching NCAA basketball; way more enjoyable then NBA games.
But my damn fighting illini aren't even in March Madness this year :(
I'll never forget the '04-'05 season where they almost won it all (FUCKING UNC!)
And who can forget their greatest game of all time against Arizona in the elite eight. Comeback of the century!

^^ For those who've never seen it... Still gives me chills to this very day.

Georgetown and UCLA....one for each coast
Phlip
03-23-2008, 05:13 PM
Davidson takes down Georgetown, looks like they've gotten lucky at the hands of the selection committee, as they got 2 games 2 hours from their campus, now they get to go play less than an hour from it.
Someone is looking at this one like "damn, we fucked up"

UCLA and UNC in the Final 4 so far... Everyone else decided tomorrow.
Word on the street is that this Tyler Hansbrough kid is pretty good, lol.
Seriously, if UNC wins, Hansbrough rakes player of the year AND Most Outstanding Player, he'd be stupid to not go on to the league.

Final Four
(1)Memphis vs (1)UCLA
(1)UNC vs (1)Kansas
My predictions:
NCAA Championship game
(1)UCLA vs (1)UNC

How huge will it be when Carolina plays UCLA in the championship game?
when? are you confident that it will happen?
I dunno...Kansas has some pretty good offense. :-/
Ideally, I would like to see UNC vs. UCLA in the final and have UCLA win (i know you might be going for UNC).
Phlip
03-31-2008, 08:44 AM
Yes, I am confident it can happen.
Kansas would be in a special brand of trouble if they try to dare Carolina to outscore them. The game will fall to the hands of defense. I've always been a Syracuse fan, but since they lost out of the NIT I am forced to follow my family ties and pull for Carolina.

memphis and kansas in the finals, with kansas taking it all. Sorry UNC fans, I personally think Kansas will take it, unless they get complacent like they do alot. But hopefully after the Davidson scare they'll realize that they can't get away with only playing half the game.
edit: I personally think the key will be ty lawson, and kansas has the players to give him pressure and trouble.

Kansas should have lost that game to Davidson.
Poor decision making for Davidson on the last
possession.
Phlip
03-31-2008, 01:07 PM
^^^ Agreed, and I am thinking that the possibility of what a Mid Major from a city with less than 7500 residents, not the memory of it on the minds of the Kansas players will play into the hands of their opponents. Keep in mind that Carolina is a very hard team to adjust to, they've shown that they can win when they need to play defense, they've REALLY shown that they can win when they need to pin 100 on you.
One of my exes' younger brother walked onto the team at Davidson in 2002, I should have called him last week to get his take on it.

Does anyone notice that on ESPN, whenever they're talking about college ball and Bob Knight has the floor, EVERY shuts the fuck up and no one even TRIES to disagree with him? No one even tries to offer a counterpoint when he takes a break in the conversation. I love that someone has finally shut that fucking Dick Vitale up.

lol.. funny ass articles Phlip... some good points, Love vs Hansbrough would be a killer match up but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Phoenix is better with Shaq...!?
Phlip
04-03-2008, 02:09 PM
I think it is more the issue that Shaq is better in Phoenix than Phoenix being better with Shaq. Western conference bigs will wear his ass out when he MUST play a playoff team every night in the playoffs, but that is another thread.
His points made were actually damn good though.
ManoNegra
04-03-2008, 02:23 PM
his analogies were cool... I give Shaq about half a season more before he becomes his fat lazy old self again.
Phlip
04-03-2008, 02:27 PM
I give Shaq until the Suns' playoff exit this year... He'll show up to training camp late with one of those "fat people" injuries and play very sparingly as a result, they will REALLY miss Shawn Marion.

I almost made the mistake of making plans to go out and chase women with my best friend Saturday, then I remembered basketball, so we rescheduled for tomorrow.
Saturday will be one of those "call the house phone, only if you're bleeding to death" evenings.
gonna be a UNC vs Memphis championship... gonna call it now...

The money is in a UNC vs. UCLA championship.

Eric Gordon is skating for the draft:
http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/7987576?MSNHPHMA
I don't blame him either, he had a good season and some exposure, the program he agreed to play for is about to go through some major shit with sanctions and such, not to mention that they're returning so few scholarship players.

I don't think ANYONE is going to watch the championship game on Monday.

So sad Memphis lost. :( They had the win right in their hands but messed up at the free throw line and didn't foul soon enough to stop them from making the 3.

too bad for memphis. there entire team will go for the draft, and J. calipari may leave for another team if the school doesn't pony up more $$$$. they said he makes "only" 1.4 mil/year.
hansborough will go to the draft and do well in the nba. love on the other hand will not do well in the nba. at 6-10 he has good height, but just isn't quick enough to guard any of the big men in the nba. and when he switches on defense to guard any power forward he will get used up like a piece of toilet paper.

Hansbrough won't go to the draft, his pops is loaded, so he doesn't need the money. His game is best in the NCAA, so if he is to make his legend, he is going to make it right where he is. The NBA would eat his ass alive at the 4 position.

Derik Rose, choker. Making freethrows are key to a winning a close game.
