View Full Version : Thinking about new wheels....

Guys

I really like the Nismo LMGT4's that came off of the 350Z's and have been thinking about snagging a set for my S14.

In the process of eyeballing the nismo's, I came across the Rota P45F/P45R which is the knockoffs of the LM wheels.

These wheels are offered in several different color options as opposed to the few colors nismo offers.

I was wondering what you guys though would look best on my cobalt green S14...

I believe that the LMGT4 in gold is out of the question with my green car....

I am leaning more towards the Rota's just because they're significantly less expensive than the Nismos.....

Let me know what you guys think

Thanks

It a great choice, and the 350Z sizing is perfect for plug and play wheel sizing on stock fender's. Compared to the Rota's the Nismo wheel in silver is your best bet especially due to the quality of having a wheel made by RAYS plus the LMGT4's are a shit ton lighter than the knockoff's. Here's a picture of my car w/silver LMGT4's...http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/5259/t28kit003mn9xy4.jpg

They are less expensive for a reason...

i just put the silver LMGT4's on my gold zenki, i'll post some pics when i get it out of the shop.

EDIT: keep an eye out for used, i got mine for $930 shipped off ebay then sold the tires and had the curb damage repaired. total investment for wheels and new tires was $1250.

yeah right, buy the wheels that you like man!

you dont have to impress the guys here with big names like hks, nismo, work and stuff like that!

Some good points already....

Its definately 'you get what you pay for'

I have noticed typically the clear coats on the 'cheaper' wheels like to die faster, especially when exposed to harsher soaps/brake dust

Having big names on my wheels isnt all that big of a deal to me, I have 700rwhp 300ZX and I've got 5-zigen FN01R-C's on it.....I do catch some flak, but at the same time, our roads here in Illinois suck, hitting a pot hole and paying 400+ to replace one wheel as opposed to 200+ could come in handy as well.....

Not to mention this car is getting a head/cam LS1 already, so its going to be a hybrid of sorts, lol

GT4's are baller, but don't get the typical 350z fitment. I think most places will try to sell you the 8.5 + 25 offset in front, 9.5 +25 offset in rear. 9.5 +12 all around is better.

I can understand not buying genuine nismo LMGT4's

but you should at least try for a better knock-off than rota

!Zar!

lmgt4's are the new TE's.

Don't buy Rotas.

Why don't you support the company that spent many man hours coming up with the design instead of the company that simply ripped it off?

You get what you pay for.

Good luck finding those sizes, authorized Rays dealers can't even get LMGT4's only NISMO Japan. Judging by the sheer number of folks rocking the better sizes (Lindsey and Revat) it's damn difficult to find:hammer: .

I think the silver LM's would look best on your green 14.

Now which brand of wheels to get.

Well its whatever you fancy and whatever your budget is.

I am still having a hard time swallowing the plain silver color that the nismo's come in. Would anyone be pissed off if I bought them and then had them powdercoated? lol

I feel that regular ol' silver lost its glitz about 10 years ago

Just buy it and put it on your car and try it out.

A lot of times I see wheels that I don't think would look good on a car and once it's on, shit looks different and good.

You never know.

As people have mentioned above, its your car

Do what you feel

Don't mod based on someone else's judgement

Powdercoat it, paint it, drop it, if it belongs to you then no one should have a say besides you

So let me get this straight. You're trying to decide between Nismo LMGT4 (one of the greatest wheels ever) and Rota POS's and you decided to make a thread about it. Come on man. Have a little more sense than that.

O, and your car looks stock. Spend your money on something else.

how many of you have actually owned a set of P45R's?

they are <$900 a set, no shit they aren't the same quality as Nismo wheels...

but everyone makes it out as they wheels will just fall apart. get real.
you do get what you pay for, but P45's aren't going to spontaneously combust. The fact is, these wheels have been proven over and over to be made strong and durable. The Driftworks team has been running them for years on multiple cars with no failures whatsoever.

Life advice:
Form an opinion after you have had experience.
People that make blind assumptions are just that, blind.

I'm not saying this to stick up for the wheels I chose to buy. Yeah, they are knock off unoriginal design cast blah blah... but that fact is my 18x9.5's look good, weigh 22lbs, were custom fit for my car, and cost me next to nothing. try getting a wheel made to custom specs for cheaper... unless you want to be dirt spec and get Burt Reynolds SPL diamond racing steelies.

Nobody knocks CST's, Bee-R B5's, or Uras NS01's, how come?

I'm not proud that Rota is a knockoff company without a single original design, thats real wack in my book, and i'm not proud that they take profit away from the companies that pioneer in wheel design. But, for me they are a perfect combination of size, price, quality and appearance.

Coming from someone who actually has used the wheels, i'd take 3 sets of P45R's before 1 set of LMGT4's, but thats just me.

I'm not looking to shave every milisecond off my lap time to the grocery store, so i don't personally deem it necessary to spend 3 grand on 1 set of wheels, some of you may see where i'm coming from, some of you might need that forged monoblock wheel to get you to the mall that much faster.

now i see your point whether it be daily driver or full track car, but there is also something to be said of spending the $$$ and getting the real wheel that was originally copied! for some it is a staus symbol to spend that much on parts for your car, for others it's a "bar" that they hold themselves up to! everyone makes their own choice.

If you plan on just doing daily driving, i would just stick with the rotas. There is no point in worrying about them getting stolen or curbed. That is my reason why my wheels are still not on my car. It has been sitting there for months. Too many stories of thieves stealing 240s. I even wanted to sell the wheels at one point.
If you want to go take your car to car shows or track your car, then the better option would be the lighter wheel.

For the guys telling me to buy this or buy that before wheels.....please STFU :tweak:

I have been doing the whole car thing for a little while now. This thread may not project it, but i DO know what I'm doing.....

Proof be here

I posted this thread about wheels, lets keep to it. I have stated in other threads that this car IS getting an LS1.....I already have it, just waiting to put it in...

I dont care what you think, or know, about the rest of the car, I am only asking about the wheels......

lol Rota's are not made in China, they are made in the Philippines lol. At least get the country of origin right. It does not mean they are any better than stuff made in China.

Main reasoning..........I'm colorblind, yes.....colorblind

I can tell the difference between black and white, simple stuff like that, but I cant truly tell how well my car's green and a silver wheel, or bronze wheel, etc are going to contrast....

Notice how I've already narrowed it down to the style of wheel I like....

Your hardly asking about pink, green, red, or orange wheels. You have an OEM color on your car, and you're looking at normal colors rims that have been done on your color car dozens of times each. I'm just saying your not talking about extremes here.

But to answer your question. Yes, I would. :loco: :)
