My s14.5 was killed by a old fart on wheels and i picked up a new s14 kouki ka-t.
problem is that the steering wheel jolts to different positions in the steering. basically it only jolts to 2 different positions that arent that far apart from each other. I noticed that steering only shifts when i go over bumps. let me know if im not describing it as vivid as you like.
Do you fellow zilvians think that if i change out the steering rack and tie rods that it would fix this? I already have a parts car and wanna avoid taking it to any professional help b/c i dont want to pay for unnecessary dianosis charge when i can just swap out those parts and know it will be fixed.
not worth much but ill rep ya up.

Check your tie rod ends first.
Is the car lowered? If you have stock tie rod ends you may be experiencing bump steer which is common in lowered cars.
If your car hasn't been aligned since you bought it, assume that it hasn't been aligned by the previous owner.
After you check those first 2 problems I said you can take it to an alignment shop and they'll definately be able to help you solve your problem.
PS: Your rep is red, so the rep you give people is worthless.
You had 5 red squares before I repped you btw.

yea the car is lowered on eibach prokits, and is running stock tie-rods. Its definately not bumpsteer b/c i kno how bumpsteer feels like and this shit just feels dangerous.
Thanks for the advice, and rep too:bigok: ill get her to the alinement shop stat.

It sounds like your caster setting is off maybe. But definately take it to alignment that is the first step. Anytime you lower the car you're supposed to take it to alignment. Hope you get it fixed.

Is it hard and harsch?
Jack the front end up, take off the p/s resovoir cap, and turn the wheel back and forth (lock to lock) like 50 or 100 times. It'll help burp out any potential air bubbles in your system.

nope, not harsh at all. feels normal its just when i go over bumps in a straight away the steering re-verts back to another steering point.

Check steering rack bushings...maybe worn out. Also check that the steering shaft knuckle is not interfering with the exhaust pipe in any way. Look for kinks in the hard lines that go into the rear part of the rack sometimes get crushed during engine removal from the top.

check all bushings up front.
check the steering spacer see if its all gay.
if all else fails get new coilvoers and it will give you a reason to take it to alignment.
you had 3 red squards and i +1 for you and now you have 2 haha.
you must of been very close to it from falkon
