View Full Version : Cam cap bolt broken inside head

So a friend and I did a bit of maintenance and replaced the headgasket on the KA, and after all the fuss I snapped a cam cap bolt and half is still inside the head. I'll probably hear something like "Hey fuckface, search" and yeah, I've searched for shit like this. I'm just unsure of myoptions since the bolt is relatively small and I'd like to be absolutely sure about this bolt. So has anyone experienced this? advice? should I try Easy Out? should I just take the bite and have a machine shop drill and tap?

i have had that happen before i broke two of them of in my ka i just used a small easy-out kit and they came out.
i drilled them out then used a t-handle and the easy out easy as long as you are careful when drilling you dont wanna fuck up your threads.

when using a easyout make sure its dead center
if u do fuck up threads:( then heli-coil it if chasing it dont fix it
those cam caps dont have much tq the helicoil will work
you can also use timesert(more expsenive)

Those bolts usually break from a little side load...NOT from getting stuck, or bottoming out.
If you try an easy out, you'll need to drill first...and often, the bit will just spin the bolt in further, as it will be loose.
SO...
Hit it with a small drill bit, IN REVERSE.
Not to drill into it, but to try and spin it out.
Has worked for me, twice.

Did the same on my SR but with a small screw driver, nice and easy.

Same thing happened to me on my sr20 head. My snap on torque wrench was acting up and tightened it too much. Used an easy out and replaced the bolt. It was incredibly easy.

Why the fuck did I read all of this just to realize that it's 8 fucking years old?!?!?!
It's not rocket science jlmillionaire. Figure it out when you buy the kit. And buy the kit, you'll use it more than once in your life span! Geeez.
