What's the worst that can happen if I get pulled over in my SR powered 240 in California. Will they impound my car? And if they do, can I get it back without actually really passing smog? I will have a certificate passing smog soon, but it won't really be for real, know what I mean? I don't care if I have to pay a little money for impound, I just don't want to lose my car permanently.

Also, whats the best exhaust that I can get that wouldn't be loud enough for me to get pulled over for? Anyone know where the best place to get a stock silvia exhaust from would be? Mine is eaten up and I have a loud a$$ hks cat back on my car that is like a cop magnet. I just want to go stock sr20det exhaust. Thanks guys.

i dont know what the worst is that could happen, but the most frequent are fixing tickets and ref tickets...the ref ticket is what you dont want...but whatever exhaust you get, make sure its not one of those huge canisters in the back, since its like a reflective mirror for the cops...and just dont do stupid stuff on the road to get pulled over i guess...good luck man

i dont know. but i do know that san dimas high school football rules.

for the record, there are a SHITLOAD of these threads. all of which, will answer your question.

now is when everyone, not in california chimes in. 'i dont even have a cat, or a front license plate. i have limo tint on my windshield. i have an RB25, and i shoot 25 foot flames out the exhaust. boy am i glad i dont live in cali.' :blah:

There's one of those on the other side of the continent too, you know.
As great as it is being able to do whatever I want to my car in NC, car stuff revolves around California, just like it always has.
I wish NC would start being more concerned about air quality, just not as nazi-ish as CARB. I'm from a rural area and the air in Charlotte where I live now sucks ass, especially in the summer.

Yeah but California beaches kick ass.

The water looks like poo, but theres usually decent sized waves and LOADS of stuff to do year round.

As for what can happen to your car, couldn't you look this up in the California Vehicle Law something or other?

i think it would depend mostly on if what you were doing when u got pulled over and also by what city or sanction pulled you over. Most of the time people get ref'd but sometimes cops dont even know wtf they are looking at and jus give you an exhaust ticket. all depends man!

I've never heard of anyone getting their sr car crushed.

Most of the time they just send the people to see the state ref.

And that's a whole lot of pain in the ass, mostly resulting in people changing back to stock KA form or just straght out non op their cars.

Or you could pay a heavy fine.

Either way I don't daily or street drive my 240 no more and I don't worry about shit like that.

ya most of the time people get ref'd but sometimes they can crush your car if they think that it has stolen parts. Ex: crossed out vin numbers, etc.... just like this honda guy:

nope no stolen parts here. so does anyone know where I can find a stock exhaust to put on an sr 240sx? thanks for the responses guys (the useful ones at least).

just do what my friend did (if you are lucky) find a stock skyline exhaust and have a muffler shop make a cat-back for you. that shit was quieter than a stock 240sx that still amazes me everytime he turns on his car. and on the plus side the exhaust isnt shiny and noticeable.

yeah this hks high power is the most obvious exhaust in existance. If I could get a stock exhaust I wouldn't have to worry about anything. Thing is, I don't think I have ever seen a stock exhaust on an sr 240sx. I guess I can just get a stock 240sx muffler attached to the car. If I got an after market downpipe could I run a stock 240sx cat back on it?

thats his fault for running around with so called "stolen parts" i think if it wasnt for that they would have just ref'd him.

shiny it is but it has huge canister and is stupid quiet. i mean like i pull away from people and they are like " i didn't know your car is running. it's quiet!"

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'll just go to the local exhaust shop and pick up a quiet muffler and unassuming looking tip. That exhaust in the link posted looks sick, but my city is pretty tough when it comes to exhausts. The cops here take courses on import cars and what mods to look for, the sr is probably right behind b series motors on hondas.
