ok, so ive been thinking a bit about this...let me know what you guys think, maybe its just a waste but maybe worth a try...and maybe we can make a new thread and sticky it...so ive noticed that many cars have been getting stolen, and ive had a car stolen from me in the past...and it sucks major time...so the idea is...i assume people who steal cars like 240's, would target these certain cars...which means that it is a possibility that they buy or sell parts from owners to find address's, maybe through knowing peoples mod list or whatever from the forum or who knows...but maybe we can have a place where people who get their car stolen, can talk to each other and possibly identify the same buyer or similar deals going on...i myself try not to meet anyone at my address, but i know other people have done it...just a thought, maybe something like this wouldnt work or it has been tried...but i would like to see someone get their stuff back in one piece...even if its just once

shhhhhhhhhh.......
*** voice lowers down to a whisper ***
Perhaps you could take charge and just post a thread like this.
And once it is successful then it will become a sticky.

P.S. For some odd reason while reading this I just assumed that you were whispering or something.

Seems to me this would just do more harm then good.
It would just lead to finger pointing.

No, you HAVE to throw them in the lake.
If they sink, they're a witch, if they float then they're not... If they die, though, then they won't ever steal anything again.

Thats actually a REALLY GOOD IDEA.
However, i bet most cars are stolen cause they are sitting on the side of the road, and some cocksucker decides to take it.
I know now everytime I see a decent 240 sitting on the side of the road it think, DAMN, THATs GOING TO GET JACKED. ITs sad and pathetic, but probably true.

I could see where there could be some finger pointing with that but, then again I'm down for drowing some thieves.

btw, if they sank and drowned it meant they weren't a witch, and they'd be forgiven in heaven. If they floated, they were a witch and were executed anyway!

People fail to realize how it easy it is to steal a car, any car. There's a lot of easy steps to prevent it from happening though.
1) Do not drive your car to car shows, drift events, parking lot cruises, anywhere you'd find the typical wannabe ricer bandwagon riding thug. Some of you guys have the mindset that it's cool to hang out with other enthusiasts, but 99% of those kids are thieving fucks just looking for parts. Where ever else you park your car, Home Depot, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, or whatever, park it close to the door. Don't talk to anyone in the lot, and definitely don't pop the hood to show someone who seems cool. People don't walk up to strangers and ask about their car unless they plan on stealing it. Simple.
2) If you track your car, track it someplace respectable (IE expensive), that way the only people out there have money and don't care about your pissant little 240SX. If you can, find a place that charges for spectators, that way you eliminate some of the filth that would otherwise stroll in. While the car is pitted, stay with it. If the hood is open, keep a watch on anyone nearby. Shut the hood and lock it if you leave for even a second.
3) Do not post any pictures of your car anywhere. Period. People can recognize the surroundings even if the plate is blanked out and get a general idea of where you are.
4) Do not post a single thing you've done to your car, ever. If you have to ask why your SR isn't running right, a full mod list isn't required. You're only asking for it.
5) Assume everyone on a forum, web board, anywhere you post that you don't know is a thief. 75% of the time, they are.
6) Do not ever meet anyone to exchange parts, labor, money, anything anywhere near your home or business. Don't drive your car there either, hitch a ride or take someone else's car.
7) If you ship parts to people, use a PO Box or friend's address for a return. Don't put your phone number anywhere or use another number that's not tied to you at all. All that person needs is to read your return address, then he's on the way to break into your car one night.
Keeping your car away from people who plan to steal it is the first step to take. After that, it's all about common sense. At my new shop, no one knows where it is, not even my closest friends. Why? They may never intend to do it, but someone can always mention it in passing, and it only takes one person to pass the info along. After that the sky's the limit. I learned that from my last place when it was broken into, it was someone who had been there and known what I had, otherwise it would never have happened. It sucks to shield yourself from the entire scene, but face it, the scene is the problem. Fanboys don't care about cars that aren't in the spotlight. I daily drive an old Lexus, I could park it anywhere, keys in it, unlocked, no one will touch it because it's not popular with the 16-25yr old drifter crowd.

Jesus man! Are you gunna lock yourself in a big metal box with your car at night as well? Look, the whole point of having a modified car is to enjoy it and share it with others that enjoy it. If you lock yourself away from the world with your precious car you will never truly enjoy it. You have some good tips in your reply, but come-on! 75% of the people on the forums are trying to jack someone!!!??? That is complete bullshit! It is less than 10% of the people that are the problem. The entire world is not out to get you! The bottom line is that, after all the bullshit, you need to take your car out and enjoy it. If it gets stolen, oh well, it can be replaced. At least you enjoyed it while you had it.

Also... put distinctive markings like serial numbers, d.o.b, last 4 digits of SSN, something that is really unique to parts that are worth money. Cops rarely do shit when your car gets stolen and you find the wheels on the internet.
Trust me, it happened to me.

i wholeheartedly agree with you on this one. ive had stuff stolen from my car, sure it could have been prevented if i had it in storage twenty four-seven, but what would be the point of that?
oh and i daily my 240...
all this is unfortunate as fuck, but i suppose its inevitable.

Never said that. "the whole point of having a modified car is to enjoy it and share it with others that enjoy it." Maybe for you, but I own a modified car for my enjoyment, I could give a flying fuck about other people. Why would anyone build a car so other people could enjoy it, that's just retarded, unless you're sharing it with all your friends. It's your car.
Secondly, I don't lock my car up 24-7, right now it's not even running, but my last two 240s were driven daily, nearly everywhere, I just avoided the typical places where it would have eyes on it. The NOPI Nationals? Biggest car theft arena ever, over 200 cars are stolen there every year. So, I don't go. No big loss for me, neither is missing out on car shows (they're lame) or drift events (I could give two shits about drifting, I prefer grip driving) so I'm not shutting myself out from anything. Maybe some of you guys like that kind of stuff, cool, but expect to keep an eye out and lose your shit. Fact of life. Those are just my opinions of ways to deter the theft, since that's where you'll find the people looking to steal it. You may not agree with that, but don't assume you're right/I'm wrong, because neither one of us know for certain, I just know in my experience what to avoid. Does it bother me that I miss out on these opportunities? Not at all, because again they're places/events I wouldn't go to anyway, whether I had a car worth stealing or not. And I still have my car, so I must be doing something right.

It's not paranoid at all. It's called being aware of ones surroundings. If most people began taking a more active role in their actual 'relationship' towards the world in general, a lot less of this stuff is happening. Most of what he suggests is what I follow (not everyting) and I pride myself on being that way.

True, and I don't disagree. The time and effort I've put into my car though cannot ever be replaced, so it if takes an act of Congress, I'll all for it.
