i'm also starting a t-shirt company, but imo you should never throw out the name to people if it's not copyrighted yet. someone could jack your name, but yeah recon's taken. good luck though, just don't stop on what u love doing.

Geez there's a lot of T-shirt companies on zilvia.

I guess the more the better.

GL

Recon I like that name.

But I couldn't wear it. I don't rate it.

personally, i wouldnt wear that shirt just because it doesnt appeal to me. the name doesnt sound "cool" and its just really plain.

its a good start though, yeah, i guess you gotta change your name, but i say just make a SMALL logo for your shirts, and stamp it somewhere, and then make random shirts with random things on it. shirts with cars dont really sell since it'll appeal only to people who like that car., but if you make something that everyone can relate to youll get your sales.

Yea dude When I made my clothing companies name i did sick research. and if you are just starting to print make really cool 1 or 2 color designs. If you print yourself its less work and if you pay for someone else to do it its less money. Name is gonna be your biggest challenge

I think this is what you meant, but if not this is what I think. I'd say if you print it yourself you spend less money, but put more work on your part. If you pay for someone else, to do it, it's more money, but less work from you. And yes a name is a challenge, but you also have to think about what is the real reason you want to start a business. Most common then ever, are those brands that just are out there to make money. And some succeed and some don't, but I think if you really want to make it up there. And you say your target market is car people and skaters. It would help if you contributed to the actual industry your going to jump into, before or while your starting up. You can't just sell clothes to skaters and car dudes and say its cool shit! spend your money on it! One reasons skaters wear the clothes is because they like the company. Because the company has a team or makes products or sponsors events. yadayada. Well anyway, just think about this more and honestly, get your stuff settled, and don't just throw out a name cuz someone, anyone can take it from you if it isn't patented. Well goodluck bro. And as for your shirt, the brand names taken, the type isn't anything special, unless you made it from scratch? Just do a lil more research. I'm sure you'll be able to start the business, but if you really want to stay and make it, it takes time and money.

Hahha pretty much what I said but longer. I mean if you print yourself your not really spending much money. So cheap to buy shirts especially if you can go to la. But I would say selling to the skater market will make you way more money. Cars not so much

Did you buy a screen printing machine, or do you have your clothes printed somewhere?
I have all these designs in my head and in my computer, but I don't know what the best way to go about printing them in a larger quantity would be, plus some are kind of big.
How much money should I expect to invest up front before actually turning any profit?
I've been making shirt graphics for myself just for fun since I was like 13 or 14, and in the back of my mind I've always thought about starting up a small brand just for fun, not out to make big money or anything, it's just the printing part that's been keeping me away.

Yea I have my own press. Screen printing is so easy to do the only way I would have someone else print my stuff was if I was selling alot or made it into some big store and was making enough money to not have to do it myself. In my case after I got my screenprinter I saved like 500 bucks. Because you need to buy the actual screens then get the image put on them. I dont want to work with emulsion or really have the time so i have someone else do that for me. I can go to La and get screens for $12 and to put the image on is $20 plus if your doing like a 3 or 4 color shirt you need one screen for every color so it always depends on how many colors and the way the design looks and everything. Shirts run me about 18 shirts for $20. It helps alot when you can drive to downtown LA I dont know if your area has a fashion district. You best bet if you dont want to get your own printer is find someone who prints like band shirts because they usual dont charge too much. or there are a bunch of companies online that print shirts and you can have em shipped to you

Like pretty much anything there is they sell it down there. Plus most major companies print on stuff you wouldnt think. alot of bigger companies use AAA and plus its garment district so if you have the pockets you can have your own shirts cut for you. Oh and whatever name you think of next google it because thats how I found that Recon clothign and plus my friends have a band with the same name

Put some graphics on that bitch, it's boring to start out your brand with a simple logo print.

Start out with something eye opening or don't at all. It's getting flooded with people trying to come up with their own label. Some make it, some fail.

Recon is an OG to the streetwear scene

honest opinion:

i wouldnt buy that shirt. not saying i dont like it, but its a simple design. looks like everything else out there. now on the other hand if you sponsored some good skateboarders or drivers, then perhaps i'd buy. because i know i'd at the least be supporting something.

good luck though man.

Yeah...
that shirt is really plain.
that font is pretty bleh.
That name isn't that cool.

If I spend $12 on a shirt I want to imagine someone spending at least 10 minutes in photoshop designing it.
