Seems like everyone from everywhere keeps getting their 240sx stolen or fucked with.

Make points to keep your shit.
INVEST IN A GOOD FUCKING ALARM.
IF YOU CAN PAY THOUSANDS OF $ FOR PARTS.Then you can afford a good alarm system!

Its an easy $5-15 investment. No more than an air freshener you would buy.
PUT LOTS OF THEM. MORE THAN 1 IS A PLUS.

If you don't want them to steal your Rims...then Get some wheel locks.
Fuck it...Throw them off. Get 2 sets with different patterns!

<<<<<<<ALSO>>>>>>>>
If you think it's cool to put brand named stickers on your car. Such as Skunk,Greddy,Volk,Nismo etc....You are fucking stupid. That better be a track car that just sits in your garage!! You're
giving the thief a checklist of all the parts you have...SMFH

lets make it into a "keep your car from getting janked" thread.

reviews on alarms, how to's on wiring kill switches, how to aim a firearm et c.

even my tercel, a car that no one would expect to be modified much less want to STEAL has 2 kill switches. one outside the car and one inside both hidden very well. all wiring involved has been grafted into the stock harnesses impossible to detect. including a quick release steering wheel.

a loaded .40 cal S&W sigma series with cross-sectioned hollow points in the clip rests on my nightstand when im in bed (exit holes with these bullets are the size of a softball) and i sleep 20 feet from my car.

even with this i didnt feel paranoid enough, so i installed motion sensing spot lights outside (8 to be exact) and an out only doggy door for the german shepherds. and im beginning to feel like no one will mess with my car.

I guess it depends on what the demand for your car is in your area. There's like 6 S13s within 6 blocks of my house, 3 appear to be modified. I had my old S13 in front of my house with no window, door broken, no alarm, no security whatsoever (except for my keen sense of hearing, of course) with a million CDs in the passenger seat, yet I never had so much as a piece of gum stolen.

Call me lucky I guess.

I have been told you you should spend 1.5x you insurance deductible. If your deductible is $500 then $750 for an alarm.

If your living in CA skip number 6

Cuz california is land of the hippie where YOU as the owner of the vehicle, can get sued by the person who tried to steal your car.

Also, slam your damn car, makes it that much more harder to tow that shiet, seems that alot of cars are getting stolen using towtrucks!!! And they say raking your bumper isnt practical...

Again, this would be one of the reasons why I probably wouldnt get a 240 anymore... All the reasons that made me get a 240 is now a thing of the past. No ricer attention, its not a honda, no theft, no cops profiling (remember back in the days when they though S13s were Ford Probes?)...now its just horrible...

You better knock on wood. Because the S-chassis is the new "civic," they're getting stolen like civics. It's the truth. If Samuel L. Jackson was desperate and jobless, I'd hire him to be my car guard.

Would you steal a car if Sam Jackson was chillin at your car?! Like this?! With a gun on his lap!?

Invest in some lessons and time at the range. You want groupings about the size of your fist. Practice one, two, and opposite handed. I even have a target from my last outing hanging up in the garage with shots in the head and center mass just as a deterrent.

yeah its all good what i meant though, was that in some areas of the country someone might get away with suing you because you injured them while they were messing with your car. but where i am, if i only injured them the cop would look @ me like i was stupid. and ask me if i know how to aim.

In Arizona most thefts are done by tweakers and or illegal immigrants, sorry if that offends anyone but the statistics don't lie. The sound of a shotgun pumping or my .45 chambering a round is enough to get them to scatter. Most want nothing to do with cops or dying.

I hope I never have to shoot one but I am prepared if I must. I work hard for my stuff and pay for it with blood, sweat, and tears.

Hmmmmm I'm goooona say Noooooooo!!!!!!!

Lo Jack has a secondary power source and some good alarms have it also. However personally I wouldn't invest in anything other that an OEM alarm. How many times have you walked thru a parking lot or heard an alarm and you not even really focus on what's going on? A real thief will disarm an alarm in a couple of seconds. As far as Lo-Jack stickers the device is a theft recovery no deterent so if someone knows you have it they can look for it and try to disable it thus defeating the purpose.

+1 for kill switches. Best feeling in the world to come out to your ride that's been broken into, but they couldn't take it because they couldn't START it!

Do as much as you can to add to the time it'll take to start or drive your car. The more obvious things you do (steering wheel lock/ disconnect, alarms, etc.), the more likely the thief will look somewhere else instead. Even if you have a standard alarm, make sure the LED is very visible.

Another good piece of advice, from my experience? Live in shitty apartments, and befriend your neighbors. My ghetto neighbors were always up all night either high or beating their wives (or both), and because I helped them with repairs to their cars, they looked out for mine. Most of these lowlifes go to the nice neighborhoods to get the good stuff, so living in a slum can have an advantage...
Of course, I STILL moved out as soon as I could afford to!!

Yea..that is the best feeling even though u still get fucked. My car got broken into a few weeks ago. took my mp3 headunit and my navi. Kill switch that NOONE can figure out. Also linelocks are good item also, ill do a write up on it.

Its basically a brake switch inline with an electronic valve. basically you flip the switch and it puts pressure in your braking system so all the wheels are locked.

next on my list is getting my permit to carry some heat. And the only way you can get in trouble for shooting a theif is if there still alive to testify....its self defense!

hustlervibes
02-25-2008, 12:30 AM
Another thing that is good to do if you MUST park in the open whether it be on the street or in a driveway is to turn you steering wheel full lock towards whatever direction makes it harder for a theif to drive away. Then lock your steering column and take off your steering wheel (quick release) so they can't drive away with it, sorta. It just makes it that much harder.

Just drop a VQ engine in and you get to run the Nissan NATS system which basically immobilizes your car without the key which is electronically key coded. There are good reasons for going with a VQ35 install. Theft prevention. Ever here of a G35 or 350z getting stolen? I didn't think so. NATS rules.

Personally the BEST way to prevent theft:

1. A garage with REALLY good locking thing-a-ma-jigers
2. A custom cylinder embedded into the floor of a drive way that would come up or you could slide in and lock up, basically like creating a little wall. How would you ever steal a car if you cant get it out? If anything theyll steal your rims and stereo, but youll still at least have a car.

GNNR - you can take your tumblers out and have them "re keyed" so they dont accept the usual worn out 240 keys. Im sure 99% of you can open and sometimes start your friends 240's with your OWN keys

I went to my local lock place and it was like $15 per lock to get them re-keyed with new internals.

anyone reccomend a good GPS tracking thing? The only ones i see online you either have to pay a monthly fee, needs a sim card (still a monthly fee), or you have to take the unit back out and upload the data from it.

I would much rather track the car myself and then alert the real authorities, cus im sure you know its probably a ring of people doing the same cars and they have to be on zilvia/nico.

dont be cheap with security especially if this is your dd and you have no garage or safe spot. id rather pay monthly then sleep in fear. if your gonna invest in a car and not add security....stop at a gas station and while your fueling thrown your cigarette in the tank. i mean least ill have a better chance of knowing i can get peices of my car then wait till its all gone and see the man with gold shoes with one of my tires and rims.

safety glass / tint = harder to break
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
reinforce your collars around the steering collum so it cant be popped easily
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
when your parked to prevent a tow truck from owning your car,
always use your E-brakes, make sures its in park, if you have rwd back into your parking spot and aim your wheels near a wall or a solid object so it will stop your car when it starts to move.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
dont leave registration/important documents in your car
carry it in your wallet or something you always have on you
IF* you cant do that just hide your papers somewhere instead of in the glovebox
---------------------------------------------------------------------
wrap your ecu wires in the same color
---------------------------------------------------------------------
license plate locks
---------------------------------------------------------------------
engrave your engine with a serial code and take a picture of it if it gets recovered = makes it unique so its easier to retrieve

theres 3 thieves scouting out your car

1) electronic thief - wants your headunit, gauges, whatever else he can sell for 20 dollars on the street.
usually kids who want to start trouble and make some cheap dough, usually break your windows pull out your radio and search your car for whatever else is valuable

2) car thief - wants your whole car so he can strip it at his warehouse or somewhere where theres no heat
experienced/trained a part time job for him

3) stripper - wants your parts, will be willing to crowbar your hood open ( lockable hood latches = helpful) and start removing whatever he wants.
just a greedy bitch who wants buy his own shit and envys yours..

IFFFF a skilled thief, who has been trained and knows what he wants. your car has no shot. He will find the weaknesses after shadowing you for a while then exploit that. Just try to find ways to make it harder/longer for him to make this possible. Or even things that will make him not even want to bother at all.

Im looking to make some keyhole covers, super glue and yea pretty much a good signal to thieves. should be cheap to produce and just use super glue to hold.

I had my rx7 parked on the side of the road, it wasn't running at the time. I put pad locks through the hood pin holes.. Well to my suprise i came out one day and noticed that both locks were broke off and my cold pipe/bov was stolen. Put locks on again.. Got broke again, yet they didn't take anything lol. What a waist for them..

Maybe we should all carry around a car boot, and just lock that thing on wherever we park.. Try stealing a car with that :-D

Bump from the dead, but its still important; Read this link if your serious about keeping your car.

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1794938

Quick release does nothing; - vice grips or another wheel
Clubs/autolocks do nothing; - can bend it with a crowbar. Or clubbuster.
Somy kill switch installs are ineffective; because you can just trace them to the source, or listen for the relay to click. The only effective route is to require a theif to unbolt a few 10mm bolts to get to the relay. while a 120db pezio is going off inside the car. I usually have 2-3 kill switches per circuit inline.

An alarm does nothing without a 520t backup battery and an interior peizo siren. Disable any power door locks, and use the alarms remote to unlock your doors.. Also disable your cylinder door locks. Anyway to prevent your hood from being pop'ed is a good route.

We need to take security serious here.

^^^Its a cosmetic peice.

The goal is preventing them from getting "in" the car. In my area they will lose a finger, or risk half of their internal organs to get at your shift knob. Disable door locks, use your alarm to unlock your doors. Block off your hood release with barbwire or metal sheets. Secure your trunks. Hid your wiring using layers of loom/electrical tape/aluminum loom secured with stainless worm clamps, and zip tied securely.

Once you kill a circuit, you need to secure the source. Disable all 12v outputs such as the cig lighter. Tint the windows, disable any interior lights. Your alarm should NOT be under the dash. Kill as many low current grounds as possible that prevents the car from starting. Do NOT pull the ECU fuse or ECU itself.

The QR is decent if your parking for short periods of time, and it helps to not have Power steering. But from the sounds of it, even with a frozen rack, they could still turn the car pin to pin with a certain clamp with ease.

Quick question for you all. On a 100% stock automatic S14, whats the chances a theif will target this car? Granted I live in a very liberal state, Where if you happen to walk up on a theif in action your either ;
Getting shot, and he does no time because you said a racist remark - Hate crime act
-Getting taken to court and sued for you car anyway because you said a racist remark. And you WILL lose. The officer will release your info to a theif, and a lawyer will be at your door the next day- No evidence needed.

lojack only works in a few states. It doesnt have a true EWS. Read up on it, its a waste of money if you can prevent the situation happening in the 1st place. You think a police officer is going to go searching for a beacon on a saturday night? The system is not all that advanced. Id opt for more of a GPS tracking with a true EWS that pages you when your car is out of a certain parameter.

I agree with both sides. We should be able to protect our home, family and property. But now this isnt the case, they can take what ever they want. By law you cant touch/accuse them, and that will never change. So preventing them from getting into the car- non violently is the only route we have.

Thanks hypertek, I have friends and family who are in law enforcement, and its true, all they can do is write down a report and thats prob it. Ex. hit and runs, I can even start on that.

Its true, if they want your car or whats inside they can get it BUT my theory if you can stall them long enough you can use the element of time against them. You are not going to see some guy trying to break into your car with the alarm screaming at a high level and him breaking the glass (with tint) and trying to hot wire your (assuming that you do the kill switch, and you go all out) car for over a hour, worst comes to worst the fucker might grab your stereo and speakers. Make it hard for him to break in, no way he is going to spend 2 hours trying to figure out your electronic wires, or what ever the hell he needs to do to get your car moving. This being said if it were to be attempted to be stolen from a random area, no access for a tow truck, you have a tilt sensor, or you got it chained to the ground. Keep in mind that In theory you want to prolong the theft to the point that it will waste too much time rendering the theft pointless and too risky. Some tell me if this is a good idea or not or if any one wants to add on.

a stock s14 with no alarm can pretty much be stolen in minutes. coat-hanger between the window and rubber to unlock the door, small phillips screwdriver to take the 4 screws off the plastic trim on the steering column and the 2 screws at the back of the ignition switch (behind where the key goes) and you can start the engine with flathead screwdriver. pull the wheel as hard as you can, snap the steering lock, and you just stole a 240sx.
