Hmmm... I seem to have a question...
What's the difference between drifting and powersliding?
I'm not exactly sure, but from what I understand, when a person drifts, he/she starts letting the rear slide out upon entering a corner.
When someone powerslides, he/she puts so much force on the gas pedal DURING a turn, that the rear breaks loose.
Am I semi-correct? Please clear this up for me or I'll never find out the answer

i dunno per se the real difference, but here's a place which describes powersliding... you can make ur own conclusions <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Well you are semi right. Powersliding happens either by entering a corner too fast or by overpowering your tires at the exit, which you said.
Drifting, is when you enter the corner drifting to exit out as straight as possible. Usually your also drifting all four tires.

as far as I know, power sliding is more when the rear swings out halfway through, or after the turn, basically just for looks. Drifting is used during the turn as a means to keep a higher entry/exit speed on the corner.

I concord with the above statements.
i thought they were opposite.. but ####, what do i know... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

sadly.. i've been told time and time again it is a very slow technique to corner (exit-wise anyways)

but very few ppl practice drifting in the real race world....
i've heard of some ppl being able to (inconsistently) come out of corners w/ a drift faster or maintaining their speed through out the corner.

hmmm...i always thought powersliding was a 4-wheel drift, and drifts are only the rear wheels.

I beg to differ... Drifting (in the Option 2 sense) is NOT the fastest way around a corner. The only form of racing where drifting is used is rally racing where they don't know enough about the turns to chose a good racing line and they are often on slippery surfaces. You will not see Schumacher taking these lines. The good thing about a drift is that by entering the corner sideways, you don't have to brake as much to change your exit angle (i.e., increased entry speed). However, because the wheels are slipping, you are unable to increase the more important exit speed. On tarmac, the only place such a line might be of use would be a very curvy downhill run where the utility of exit speed would be minimized by the proximity of the next corner and the effects of gravity. Otherwise, it's all about exit speed. Drifting (in the NON-Option 2 sense) does happen in the racing world, but is usually 4 wheel drift that happens when you get on the throttle ASAP and the car "tracks out" to the best racing line.
Otherwise - powerslides are power on oversteer induced at or slightly after the apex of a corner.
