Ok, i was thinking of buying a VLSD off of a s14 it says it will bolt up to any 95-98 240sx its the complete pumpkin and it comes with the side shafts that go into the pumpkin, just no axles. but i was wondering will my axles i have now work? and is thier any other modifications i might have to do?
Thanks in Advance

if it comes from an S14, and the car you have is an S14, then yes it will fit, there is no difference between the years. if you have an S13, i believe it will fit too, but you have to change the rear cover of the diff.
can anyone confirm this for me?

Don't remember from where but I also heard that the driveshaft may be a different length (open vs VLSD)....is there any truth to this?

I doubt it since LSD is responsible for the axle rotation, not the shaft.

Which LSD would be better for handling purposes, the 300ZX LSD, S14/S13 LSD, Infiniti J30 LSD?
An LSD will prolly be one of my first mods when I get a car, since I am holding off on the SR.
Would it be worth the money to just buy like a Kaaz LSD?
Also I belive I saw some sedan infiniti that had gold 4 lug rims, that look pretty nice, I know some toyotas have the same style rims, but was just wondering if anyone has any sites with different stock rims for cars and sizes, so i could go junkyard diving.
Everytime i try to search I find different rims, I think its the J30 but not sure.

ok in response to the last two posts in this thread.
first off alll J30 VLSD's and most 240 VLSD's here in the states had abs sensors on the front . The driveshafts off an abs equipped S13 is 1/2 inch shorter than the the non abs driveshaft.
On S14's I am not sure but several S14 owners I know have installed J30 VLSD's with the abs sensor and not changed out their driveshaft.
the only difference in axles was some of the Japanese VLSD's out of Silvias and 180s had 5 bolt flanges needing 5 bolt axles
300zx VLSD's and pre 95 J30 VLSD's had 5 bolt flanges.
You can get 5 bolt axles that will bolt in a S14 or S13 from a pre 95 J30 they are the same length as our axles and have the same hub splines .
This has been done and I have sold several of these combinations.
As far as handling goes that is a slightly strange question.
Fact is any VLSD will change your handling in the drift because you will be able to keep your drift hooked left or right without out swapping sides because both wheels are hooking up.rather than the wheel spin swap.
which happens with open diff when you are drifting. which causes you to swap lock from right to left and vice versa.
Gearing wise the only diffs that different gears were the J30 3.92 and the Japanese Turbo equipped cars that had 3.70's and the 300zx Turbo (of course it uses a R230v which will not fit in our cars anyways.
Nissan put 3.70 gears in the Turbo cars VLSD's to keep the Turbo in boost longer per gear.

the s-13 non vlsd shaft is longer, i put a vlsd in mine and i didnt need the shorter shaft, it fit. the rubber bushing in the shaft up towards the trannie took up th extra space. definatly the best mod ive done

oh the LSD vs VLSD...
there is a WORLD of difference.
At least that's what's been beat into my head from all the people i've asked that have good aftermarket LSDs, be they Nismo, KAAZ, Quaife, etc etc etc. The overwhelming response is that if you have an open diff, there will be HUGE difference noticed by adding a VLSD... the change from VLSD and a serious 1.5 or 2 way unit is the same amount of awe. I think I'll be getting a KAAZ myself.

kid dynamite.. all the LSD units you mentioned are the exact same ones. they are all R200 VLSD units. just in different pumpkins. The Kaaz and the Nismo and other such high dollar diffs are Clutch type LSD. theres a big difference in them. when they lock they lock hard and you can hear it. the Kaaz units chatter constantly. (almost like a ticking sound) pretty annoying from what I understand. but they are rebuildable and you can change them from 1.5 way to 2 way when doing this as well as making it tighter (quicker lock up) or looser (slower lock up but less noisy)
The differences in length between S13 and S14 pumpkins is less than 1/4 of an inch. your biggest problem there is the front mounting points. on the S13 its a solid mount, the S14 uses bushings. over time the wrong kinds of mount will cause problems. I'm putting my NISMO back in m S14 pumpkin when I rebuild it.
Gearing - the 300zx and the J30 had 3.96 gears. factory in S13/14 is 4.08. some 180sx's in Japan came with 4.36 gears its been rumored. Nissan Motorsports (not NISMO) sells 4.363 and 4.636 gear sets for them. (mad quick acceleration! A guy in Tenn. said that the 4.63 he put in his made a more noticable difference in his car than his XS engenierring turbo kit. all I can say is the 4.36 gear makes first gear a joke.
