My friend at FA is helping me buildup my KA into a turbo, and he recommended the Silvia S14 (Type R Core? or something?) Intercooler, anybody know a good place to get one?? Or should i just get a part # and give it to Courtesy Nissan? Thanks in advance

he's probably talking about the Apex'i Hybrid Silvia intercooler. It's designed for Silvias but is only a core and you need end-tanks and piping to complete.
Type-R? The only Type-R I/C I know is HKS, jspec.com can get it:
JSPEC (http://www.jspec.com/ps13types.html)
If you go to Nissan, they might give you the STOCK I/C, which is the small, side-mount one.
There are plenty of other good intercoolers out there. Spearco cores are good, and you can specify the size you want, along with end-tanks.

Hm... thanks I'll look into those and ask him again.
What I remember him telling me is that the IC and all its piping will fit into the 240sx perfectly except for cutting 2 bumber supports on the sides. Then the intake piping needs to be custom modified slightly. I'll post again when I talk to him.

That HKS one is probobly the one he was talking about, thanks. Any other places that might have it? Or is J-spec the cheapest?

if you change it from N/A make sure you change the internals : head gasket, cams, pistons, roker arms, and roker arm stoppers.
as far as an intercoller goes, stick with Trust

Phil,
For a cost effective way, if you have someone who can do TIG welding on Alum, get your own I/C and end tanks... I personally reccomend Spearco I/C's...
Where I work we do a lot of I/C's for other car makes then those we specailze in... and can do the welding here in house if you don't have anyone to do welding for you.

Thanks, I'll definately give those options a look into. The HKS Type R IC and piping is running $1300 shipped.. eek.

I think I get it now, he's talking about using SR intercoolers modified to fit a KA turbo. well in that case, any SR aftermarket intercooler will fit if you modify it, mainly the intake or cold pipe. SR intercoolers have a short hot pipe, cause of various turbo sizes that can be used. They rely on the factory hot pipe from the turbo to the fenderwell, then the I/C has a pipe on the endtank to revieve the pipe.
I suggest looking into Greddy, their VSPL and RSPL intercoolers are widely used and tested to be durable, a lot of SR owners have these. VSPL should be good up to 400hp and RSPL for more (not sure). There is also Blitz, haven't heard much about em tho. Check out intercooler prices at Enjuku Racing (http://www.enjukuracing.com) and Heavy Throttle (http://www.srswap.com) <--read their I/C FAQ, very informative. As well as their other FAQ's.

ok this is a very misinformed post.
first off If you have a low mileage KA or a stock internal KA it can handle at least 10lbs boost with no mods except proper fuel setup . i.e. larger injectors , larger fuel pump and computer change to accomadate more fuel , you also might wish to change to a Cobra maf.
if you are going to do work to the engine the
pistons and rings are the weak link and the important thing you need to change out. as far as cams go that is a preference thing for tuning for more horsepower.
rocker arms? there are no rocker arms on KA's the valves are actuated by lifters directly off the cam lobes.

it's not wrong, maybe i left out a few points....reason why i say this is because my car was a SR20DE, but has been modified to a SR20DET...I'm pushing over 300HP with the N/A block....You can see my parts on a previous messege..."pix of my N/A turbo s14" look for it and then say something....if you want i can send you detailed pix of my car...

blkspicy14, you're talking about a completely different engine...you don't have to do that to the KA...drift freaq is right!
