Please pray for my Dad

What we thought was a bad case of the flu or pneumonia turned out to be much more serious. He was exposed to asbestos back in the 60's and has developed pulmonary fibrosis which is permanent scarring of the lungs. Once the symptoms begin the condition gets progressively worse and is not treatable.

His condition is slowly getting worse as his heart and lungs are getting tired from working so hard to retrieve oxygen from his lungs. When he was admitted to the hospital he started on 60% oxygen and right now he's on 100% oxygen. The next step is complete lung failure and going on a ventilator for life support. So unless a miracle happens it's only a matter of time.

He's still alive and kicking though. He's a black belt in Karate so he's a real fighter. Please pray for him (or keep your fingers crossed if you’re not religious, I don’t want to offend anyone here)

Sorry I haven't been able to respond as I have been at the hospital 24/7. All I can say is wow, all you guys are awesome. SERIOUSLY, thanks for your support. It really makes a positive difference. I didn't realize how many good people were on here!

The good thing is that he'll be under hospice care and he'll be coming home to be with us.

I'd like to share with you how brave my pops is. We went over the advanced directives yesterday which was a REALLY hard thing to do. After going over his options he decided that IF a miracle doesn't happen and his breathing fails (He's STILL alive and kicking) he wanted to go peacefully. My Auntie Vickie and I signed as witnesses.

After completing the forms my pops said to my Auntie Vickie in a humerous voice: "Vickie, if I have to go on a machine you're gonna have to pull the plug since you signed as a witness okay?" Then my Auntie Vickie said "You're CRAZY Ben!!" (That's my dad's name) and we all started tearfully laughing. I can't even BEGIN to comprehend how brave my pops is...

Thank you all very much again for the kind words and wishes. My Dad's in a better place now where he's happy and not suffering anymore. Plus he was able to pass knowing that he was at home with the family.

The funeral services will be at Rose Hills in Whittier. The viewing is set for Thursday from 5-8:30pm and the funeral will be on Friday at 9am.

After that it will be time to put this experience behind and cherish all of the great memories.

P.S. Be strong I lost my mother to cancer 17 years ago. You will remember him fondly and you will probably have dreams were he is alive and your talking to him even though you know he is gone. I have had dreams like that about my mom.
