Is there any damage to the splines? There has to something causing it to bind, the transmission is the exact same as the one you took out.

is the sr dust collar on?....if it is it must be trim to size so that the driveshaft can go in, or u can use the ka tranny dust collar instead...i don't have either on mine and its fine

Is it a manual driveshaft?
Check the splines for damage, I've seen it before, since the output shaft slides tightly into the shaft's yoke the splines have to be perfect.

I had a similar issue. My ka driveshaft was used in my sr and worked fine. Then when I swapped my trans. for a better working one my driveshaft wouldn't go in. Pulled the dust collars off, switched em, nothing. So I bought the sr driveshaft from the same guy and no problems at all. Idk. Maybe source an sr driveshaft.

yes its a manual driveshaft, do u think the splines are bad on shaft or in tranny cause it looks pretty good on driveshaft and like i said driveshaft just came out of dohc tranny with no problems

I've seen this to, I also seen this happen with clutch disc splines fitting on the inputshaft (different thing but related). Check'em closely.

dont worry man i had the same problem when i did my sr swap. what i did was i got a wrench (i believe is a 12 or 14) and i put it on the bolts midway throught the driveshaft and and turned it and had someone else push in until it cleared the rear diff. dont forget to use lithium grease!

The output shaft is damaged, pull the tail housing off the transmission and inspect/repair as needed.

thanks for the advice but the splines look straight they dont look damaged, im not sure about how to pull tranny apart but from what i can see the splines look good. whats the differnce between an sr drive shaft and ka drive shaft

Splines are the same. KA manual driveline without ABS is just an inch or so shorter... although it still works. The input shaft just sticks out a bit.

see the thing is i always had a dust cover on my tranny so i probably never noticed the gap but now that the cover is off i can see the gap and its more than a inch its probably about 2 inches but i cant line up the diff to drive shaft

You will need to trim that dust collar to get this stock KA driveshaft to work.
Your right it's probably closer to 2 inches.
I'm not sure I understand the latter part. Explain what you mean by you cannot line the diff to driveshaft? You should just be able to lift it into place.
Bottom line is the stock KA driveshaft is shorter than an SR. It works but after it is bolted up to the diff the input shaft will not be all the way inserted. I had a custom one built that was the correct length but rolled the stocker for a few months while I had it built.

You are welcome. Post in the WTB section. I'm sure there are a ton of folks on here with extra dust collars.

from a thread i posted while back about the dust collar and here was the anwser:
It's suggested to use it, but not required. I do a lot of cars and leave it off, my own included.
so u dont need the dust collar..i dont have one in mine...havent had any problems with it yet

just like he said brosef, the splines on the tranny output shaft could be broken, or there could be some shit lodged in there.
i was having weird driveshaft problems too and one night i took a flashlight, lowered the tranny a bit, and looked at all the splines inside the tranny tailshaft because i thought maybe some shit was stuck in there. that wasn't my problem, but you should have a look and inspect each spline to see if they are warped/damaged in anyway, that's what it sounds like to me anyways.

not 100% sure on the gap...it isnt much but if your looking for a dust collar, i have a sr one that just needs to be trimmed to size

guys it dark now so i decided to look in da tranny real good and it looks as if the splines are not straight, they are not bent but half way down the shaft it looks as if the splines start to curve slightly which might be causing the problem . im not 100% sure but im gonna pull it.
now is there a difference between sr and ka tranny cause i have a tranny from a ka laying is there anything i can do with(use it or take output shaft)thanks guys

i had the same problem. i ended up saying "fuck this" and picked up a driveshaft straight out of a s13 (silvia or 180sx) since than it slides in like.... lol well amazing
that would be my word of advice. in my experience i have always had problems with usdm driveshafts (well 2 of them)

You know the transmission is the same, just swap the bellhousing. As far as the output shaft, it figured that to be the problem since two known driveshafts didn't work.
