ok i recently had plans on buying a 240sx but after watching some Initial D and then reviewing the 180sx ive come to the fork in the road so to speak. Budget wise the 180sx would be better i think but i had plans for a SR20det swap still possible correct, so whats the real difference besides the 180 being lighter looking different ? and then in each of your opinions which is better ?

Fastbacks are heavier than coupes. Coupes are more rigid. That's the only things. Go with what you think looks best and what feels comfortable.

Plus, they never sold the 180sx in the states <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

I thought that 180sx comes with the sr already? If its a japan type shit, then I would guess it is turboed. ####, Japan is so lucky to have all the hot cars with turbo type shit, I wonder if they have inspections on their exhaust?

well, i believe the early 180sx's also came w/ the ca18det, then later the sr20det. but of course, only the top models had turbo, there r still a lot of them on the roads that just have the sr20de (w/out turbo).

According to Team Velocity, the 180SX has better Front/Rear balance than Silvias, with the Silvias being heavier in the front. I'll give you a web site where you can review all this cool info... hope you haven't already been there <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
Oh, and by the way, they say that the 180SX's did have SR20DET's in Japan.

they're NOT only turbo though cuz i know some ppl on here still think that all silvias n 180sx's were turbo. the early 180sx did have the ca18det though, hence the name 180sx b/c it's 1.8 l. when it used the sr20det, 2.0 l, i guess they just kept w/ tradition n still used the name 180sx.
how are the silvias heavier in the front? what would ause the balance to be thrown off?

maybe the difference ain't even noticable, i can't see how neway, just by the little difference in the body parts.
I think cauz the rear glass is a lot larger its heaver in the back. Even though the s13 silvia has a trunk, the 180's back glass would weigh more than a metal trunk.

Rear windows are larger too.

180sx (240sx hatchback or fastback in the states- they are exactly same except for few minor differences like engine, etc) have 50/50 weight distributions.

Actually, the KA is a little heavier than the SR, so it's like a 51/49, but close enough.

50/50, 51/49, 52/48...who gives a shit...when ur talking about weight distrubution differences that miniscule, it doesnt really matter...if it bothers u that much, relocate ur battery.

how do you plan on buying a 180SX if you live in the states to begin with?

180 in japan and 240 here would essentially be the same thing after you do an engine swap. take your american s13, put in a CA, and there you go

First, syndicate; I would say it's what you prefer?? What kinda body style. Of course the s13 bodystyle would be cheaper since it's older.....hence the s14 more expensive due to it being newer.
Second, if you where gonna do an sr swap it would be about the same you just gotta know where to get your stuff and info. As far as trying to get close to making a jdm 'style' . You have the 180sx, silvia, and sileighty.
Your question is very interesting, but you are the only one that can really answer it. I currently have a 95' 240 that I'm converting with the sr20det and add some side skirts, skyline styled bumper, small drift wing, and widen the rear fender to compliment the wider tires. That's my style. And i just picked up a 93' 240sx that I'm gonna make into a drifter style. Another plus, is that I do my own work with help from my close friend who swap a sr20det into a 96 200sx....(total sleeper) Anyways, thats another way to save some money.
And last but not least, just buy them both like me and you can figure which one you like better or just keep them both........ =)
