Well Since I am making a turbo kit for the Fc3s with Ls1 engines. I thought it would be nice of me to make one for the s14 ls1 guys as well. Here are some pre production shots.
T304 stainless manifold. Turbonetics t62/t04 with ??ar.
Should make around 550 whp on 6-7 psi. 750 whp on 13-15 psi with forged pistons and other junk.

I'm just a wee tiny bit jealous lol. looks freakin sick luke. are both those swaps carb legal or did you not worry about that?

I dont think the turbo setup will be carb legal. lol.

Wow, 750WHP would be good for an easy 200mph. You should really think about building a landspeed car for Bonneville Luke... I think you'd really enjoy that.

Hey luke what do u have connecting the two manifolds? a flex pipe or something.
blu808
01-26-2008, 09:40 PM
No it is a mandrel bent piece of stainless tubing that goes from the dr side manifold to oval 2.5" tubing then connects to the pass side.

LoL Luke, well I know the turbo would definitely not make it CARB legal, but I was wondering if the stock swap was a CARB legal one?

Yes it is completely possible to make a ls1/ls2/ls7 swap legal into a any s chassis or rx-7
The blue car was originally built to carb specs. But since I sold my white race car, I have decided to build the blue (sleeper) rx-7 into my track/ mountain (thanks rivards) car.

ahh I see. are you guys only limited to swaps in RX-7s and S-Chassis cars?
Ever consider sanding down or removing the GTO lettering and replacing it with a Silvia emblem? lol I know it's just bullshit cosmetics, but it'd be a nice touch and a good laugh.

No I build everything from bikes, pro touring, drift cars, ls1 swaps, sr swaps, rb swaps, vq swaps, etc.
Check the fabrication thread for pics.
Anyways. I have a source on some carbon fuel rail covers that I can cut vinyl for if anyone wants.
I tend to keep the factory covers to showcase which motor it is since we are one of the pioneers of these swaps, and like to get people into the idea of a reliable, light, affordable engine.

good stuff man =] i was just thinking of this swap on the way home. but i don't think my pockets could afford a third obsession lol. plus i wouldn't be able to compete in import showdown if i had a v8 (even though q45's come with v8's.....pfft)
i give u much props. don't know if you know of Charlie over at Mazcare here in GA but he's doing a lot of ls1 swaps in his fc's, my shops across the street from him if u ever heard of him. i know the rx7 world pretty much everyone knows everyone lol steve kahn asked me to diag a car he was tuning once muahhahah i felt special lol.
anyways, ur doing a mighty fine job sir, keep up the good work :D

Alex: Hit me up man. Almost ready for production.
Z= Thanks man. Yea it is hard to decide on which cars to build. lol. Good luck.
Ok now for an update on the turbo system.
I decided to make a cold air intake system for the turbo so it wont suck heat off of the radiator.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate012.jpg
It is a K&N cold air intake tube from a chevy truck system.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate013.jpg
Fits perfectly. Yes it took me about 3 hours to find an off the shelf tube that fit correctly. This will be included in the kit we will be offering.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate014.jpg
Then I finished the intercooler piping, and mounted the huge turbonetics blow off valve.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate021.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate022.jpg
Then onto the turbonetics racegate.
After a few hours of finding the best location. Here it is. All tacked up. T304 stainless.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate034.jpg
Looks like business.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate035.jpg
Easy adjustment.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate036.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate037.jpg
Clears the hood with 2+ inches to spare.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate039.jpg
This kit is shaping out to be a great fit for the car. I think it adds some personality as well.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g204/turboskeet/wastegate040.jpg

hahahha, yeah, like the HUGE PERSONALITIES we all know Dolly Parton for!
sick shizzle, that would be an insane setup for the street or track, wow. Ive driven a 450whp n/a LS1FC and if that spun 335s out back, then I cant imagine how the hell you'd even put that turbo to good use on the street without Rcomps and major suspension work... wow.

Why did you go single on one bank?
And if this is for drifting why did you not utilise two small T3 turbos.
Same HP capacity better response easier to tune because both banks are seeing equal back pressure and VE.
Do you have a newer Motec system, are you planning to tune each individual cylinder in each bank?

02-20-2008, 09:41 AM
Luke thats fucking RAD! It looks like ceramic coating or heat shielding would be a good idea, there is gonna be a lot of plastic melting heat under there.
blu808
02-21-2008, 12:41 AM
Fuel rail cover will be trimmed. All hot parts will be double ceramic coated, and heat wrapped.
Steve. Both manifolds feed the turbo. There is no lag with this turbo on a completely stock ls1. It is similar to a buick grand national with a cross over pipe feeding the other manifold. We did not go twin because with the ls1 we can easily make power with just 1 turbo. This will also make the kit much more affordable.
Thanks.

That radiator hose is part of the hinson kit.
Sorry I have been lagging on the turbo kit. It was out in Alabama at hinson supercars being replicated. I will get some pics of the completed kit on a 240 soon.
Here are some pics of the completed kit on the fc. It made 488 wheel tq and 476 wheel hp at only 9 psi on pump gas. On a completely stock ls1. Only upgrades were 60 # injectors, and tuning.
Here is the completed kit on the fc. Looks the same on the 240s.

Haha, Luke, busting nuts all over the world. I saw this kit in person, it's baller. Turbo setups for the LSx series motors in cramped bays are tricky (that's the biggest reason why centrifugal superchargers are so popular), and Luke really pulled it off.
He's one of the original guys behind Hinson's LSx kits, and has amazing fab skills, so this is no suprise.
Come out with the final pricing Luke!11!one!!1

I have not had time to pull my car apart to remove the manifold and make a jig. I will be doing so in the fall. The car needs to remain running to finish the rest of the season.
So far the car is making 706 rwp (thats with the tires spinning on the dyno) has 23 events on the setup, including grip driving. The system has not had any issues. The car remains drivable, and response is great. Here are some links.

I tried to pm you but your box is full. I spent a good bit of time searching for info yesterday and seen just about everything you posted on it but still have some questions if you dont mind answering.
1: what is the stock manifold on the driver side?
2: what size is the cross over and DP? IIRC you said 3.5" on the DP?
3: about how much for the pass side manifold when it comes available?
Thx.

Luke is in Buttonwillow for the Redline Time Attack this weekend with Conrad Grunewald's Camaro, hopefully he won't mind me answering these questions to the best of my knowledge.
1) D/S manifold starts small and ends at ~2.5". Each runner's diameter is tuned and the overall diameter is tuned (tuned meaning purposefully chosen).
2) Crossover pipe is 2.5", obviously 2.5" diameter on a 4cyl bank is not a horsepower-limiting factor, he's making very close to 1000hp at the crank. Downpipe has room for 3.5" and I believe that's what he's using.
3) Last we talked about pricing he was interested in selling them as complete kits, but I'm sure once he makes a few manifold he would sell one to you.
Luke pop in here and correct me if I'm wrong on any point.

Count me in Luke, I was just about to start fabbing up some manifolds last week but...as always you nailed it. total for just the manifolds and down pipe ?

my question about this is, since you only using one side on the engines exhaust to spool the turbo, wouldn't it create more back pressure on one bank?
wouldn't twin turbo be a better option?
i mean i see its running great, but im still curious

The driver's side loops around under the transmission, like a Grand National (GM's very successful V6 turbo setup). Both banks feed to the turbo, and the runner lengths and diameters are tuned as well as can be, from what Luke's explained to me.

I don't think Luke ever did a production run, but he still has the manifolds and could probably copy them...
... if anyone could afford it.
