Alright, I hit up my local smog place today and decided to fail emissions. My car:

100% stock KA24E/ mt

I passed the visual/functional test but failed the emissions portion.

this is what I failed:

15mph HC: 127 (121 max allowed) NO: 1305 (807 max allowed)
25mph NO: 1562 (746 max allowed)

I passed the rest of the emissions test.

Before the test I:

Changed oil and filter
Fuel filter replaced
New Plugs, cap and rotor
Cleaned coolant temp sensor and MAF
Greased all electrical components
Replaced all the vac. lines
New Cat converter..
Made sure timing was ok
gutted rear of car, and overinflated the rear tires
Ran 50/50 mix of premium 91 octane and denatured alcohol.
Day before I ran a bottle of guaranteed to pass emissions crap as well too...

Any thoughts or ideas, as far as I am concerned my EGR is working properly, and my motor has good compression.

did the sea foam route about a month ago. It did help to clean her up to a degree. I went from being a gross polluter to just a polluter, lol. My engine does have a bit of the SUBY syndrome. Thoughts?

high nox is from elevated cylinder temperatures. egr is designed to reduce cyl temps and therefore reduce nox. check your egr system thoroughly. (you may need to go as far as making sure the egr tube itself is clean/clear, they get clogged up with carbon residue sometimes).

I usually run the crap out of the motor right before smog and passed. But you might want to check the condition of your o2 sensor.

My friend is a smog tech here in SD. He said running your car really hard so the cat heats up is a good idea as well just before testing. Good Luck on your next test.

i too had the same problem you do. I recently bought the car i take it home change out the fuel filter put in a new 02 sensor and fill her up with some 87 octane and take it to go get it smogged. I fail with about the same NO numbers as you do. My dad worked for nissan for 25 years and is a certified technician for performance and emissions and among many other things. He told me that high NO may also have to do with having vacuum leaks. So my advice is check the egr valve make sure its not clogged by suckin on the tube (sounds weird but hey it works) and as wond3rbr3ad said a new 02 sensor wouldnt hurt and getting the cat hot will help it pass... good luck with your next test

replace the o2, get a new cat, flush your egr, and change ur pcv, its hard to get to but it helps with smog and gas etc..
