When the car warms up, it switches to a hot fuel map. With the CTS bad, it never does so, so the car runs rich, dumping fuel, and goes into open loop.

maybe bad Idle Control Valve?

All this was started from a major bump on the road, shit was like a mutha, could it go bad cause of that?

There's no way to tell. The CTS is a simple device, but anything can cause it to go bad. Connection could be loose, the plug could be broken, one of the pins could have corroded through and broken off, check it and see. An air pocket could also have been trapped behind it for a while.

also, be sure to clean your throttle body. i had some gunk on mine and when the car would warm up it would melt that gunk and the throttle plate would stick while idling.

I had this same problem on my sohc, but it was throwing the EGR code, I believe it is 32? Just replaced the EGR and some other things and its running fine now. My car would also run fine up until it warmed up and then it would just die at around 2500 rpm's. Is your car throwing any codes bro?

I too have the same problem I idle at 1900 RPM it sucks, it misfires at idle and off of heavy throttle. Checked timing it lined up good but rpm went up, plugs get fouled easy after like 5 minutes of use. They're not oily or with gas, they're black and dry.

sounds like your MAF may have crud built up on the actual sensor wire.
take some throttle body cleaner and spray but dont touch the wire on your Maf.

if possible try swapping it with a known good maf. I had a truck with that problem. or could have an intake leak something could of gotten loose when you hit that bump . try misting your intake with something like starter fluid see if your get a reaction from your idle. just be carefull

my two cents good luck...

Bad or dirty IACV. I've had this problem. Cleaning it out with some carb/brake cleaner works as a temporary fix. There was a thread somewhere here on zilvia.com that showed exactly where to spray.

I'm sort of wondering what made you rule out the idle air control valve so quickly?

cause when i used to drive it when it was cold,i had no problems with the IACV.

yea, you souldnt clean the maf with anything you could mess it up more, anyways, change ur pcv its like 5 buxs, are you running a stock intake box set up? ohh yea, didnt u rebuild this engine recently?

nousablenames133
01-27-2008, 03:31 PM
I didn't have any problems when it was cold either. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm going to guess the IACV regulation is only active when the engine is at normal operating conditions.

i think you should open her up and reset timing.

High idle, misfiring...did you ever bother looking for a vacuum leak? When it starts chugging, spray some carb clean around the area of the intake manifold/hoses, ect. If the idle calms down or changes, you have a vacuum leak. Use more direct sprays to narrow down the area of the leak and fix it.

Bad CTS. Swap it.

would a bad CTS cause crappy idle as well?

i have the same problem. when my dohc starts bogging/hesitating the temp gauage shows that the motor's getting cooler.

I had a bogging issue as well on my DE-T b4 and practically did the same thing as you but mine turned out to be a loose connection on the ECU. Had to zip tie the connector on both edges to make a good contact not just rely on 1 bolt. Something I learned >** Never tigthen the ECU connector too much it will bend **. Fo you I would check ground or any possible loose connections specially to the sensors.
