how to fix bent urethane :)

hey guys, just thought i'd drop this small "how to"..

i got a pignose lip awhile back, really good shape (no cracks, etc)...but one part looked like it had been pushed up against something for a long period of time, and it bent inward. thought of a few different ways to fix it, found this solution to work quite well.

materials needed:
•heat gun
•gloves
•dry ice

start off slow with the heat..maybe ~500º and gradually bring it up to a temp. that its easily workable. i used a piece of 1/4 inch steel we had laying around the shop to push the part of the lip forward. (overcompensate with the pushing to get it where you want, you'll get the feel for it)

Once you have it in a place where you want, (with gloves on) take a piece of dry ice and rub it back and forth on the heated part, this will help cool it alot faster and kind of "shock" it into place. for the lip, i did it on both sides, which helped out a little better than if i only did it on one side.

you wont get it perfect the first time, but i did this about 4 times and got it really close....im prob going to work on it tomorrow to get it perfect.

i'd say clamp it and let it cool slowly, that way it wont have the (small) chance of cracking from the temp diff

the chances of urethane cracking due to heat, are so small, that you have a better chance of melting it with the heat gun before you cracking it due to rapid temperature change. i used this method a few times over in a very small amount of time, and had no issue/signs of it cracking.

letting it cool on its own wont hurt it though either, it will just take a little longer to get the desired shape you want.
