NSX-R shift boot

I'm not really sure where to put this, but I guess off topic?

I was wondering what material is used on the NSX-R shift boots? It's sort of meshy, but really nice. I tried joining the nsxprime forum, but they won't allow my email to be accepted for some odd reason and I don't feel it's worth making an entirely new account just to post one fucking topic. I know it's a long shot to ask such a random question on a nissan forum, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Not quite. I've felt one personally and it's fairly thick and has about 2-3 layers of it. I want to use the same material in my car, but I can't use the NSX-R one directly. As you can see it's way too small.

I've dealt with dali racing before. And there is a bunch of mixed reviews. I myself would also give them a mixed review. I've met the guy in person, he's located towards san diego. He will be a pretty blunt and harsh? type of guy with strong opinions and be a pretty good seller with quick responses then all of a sudden disappear and you're fucked. My step dad owns an NSX as well which is how I know about this www.nsx1.com is his site which has his car. We are not on speaking terms and would like to keep it that way as of now so don't tell me to just ask him about it.

While it's nice to see that sail material (saw that myself before you posted it) it just kinda looks the same. The real one feels a little spongey and pretty thick. And that one doesn't seem to give off the same appearance.

Also it MIGHT be possible to get the real NSX-R boots and chop them up to use in our cars, but I don't want 4+ pieces sewn together to make it fit. I'd like to keep it the same as the stock setup where it just has the two pieces sewn together.

Just came across this.

Countermeasures were taken, though, resulting in a 2002 base model that boasts a vehicle weight 10kg less than that of the debut model.
And now the new NSX-R has achieved further major weight reduction, despite the added weight of its aerodynamic parts. Innovations include special custom lightening for the NSX-R, along with the use of new ultra-light carbon fiber materials. A carbon fiber hood results in a 2.20kg saving, while the carbon fiber rear spoiler saves 1.30kg. Furthermore, thinner rear partition glass saves 0.20kg, the high-matt rubber instrument panel 0.62kg, the mesh jersey shift boot 0.01kg, for painstaking weight reduction right down to the last gram. The result: a vehicle weight of just 1,270kg. The spare tire was also removed**, holding outfitted weight down to a mere 1,274kg.

It feels like it's kinda been rubberized lol. It's really hard to explain because I've felt nothing like it. Tomorrow or this weekend I'm gonna take some trips to a local fabric store and see if I can find anything super close to it, even if I have to double or tripple up the layers.

The best I can describe it... Is that material nike uses on their sneakers that is sometimes used on the tounges. That thicker almost plasticy/rubbery mesh, but a little softer.

I like the look more than the regular leather or suede or anything else. Also has a similar appearance to CF but doesn't end up lookin cheap like those "cf shift boots"

I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was real cf. They did so many little things to make the NSX-R lighter, but still look nice. They even added lightweight carpet, took out the spare and gave you a patch kit, and took out the power steering to name a few.

Either way the shift boot material is what we're after. I checked out a local JoAnn's Fabrics and they didn't have any mesh. Does anyone know of any good fabric shops in so cal?

I've messed around with my stepdad's NSX when he wasn't around and it's definetely not raw cf. It's definetly some sort of mesh material.

I have a fellow NSX-R owner looking into it now, hopefully he can help us out. He's gonna try to get measurements of their boots to see if it can be retrofited (we both doubt it though.)

also...just by looking at it, I work at a tool store, we sell a sh*t load of tarps...that looks like a variant of a nylon mesh tarp we sell. Not the cheapest tarp, but I think the smaller sizes aren't too bad.

I'll be sure to check it out. Also, my stepdad being the baller he is just got black OEM NSX-R seats. And it looks like most of the fabric used is the same fabric... So it has to be available in large ammounts, just not sure if we can get our hands on it.

Small question?

Does the auto trim piece for the S14 work with a manual tranny? I have a C's short shifter so I need less room side to side... I'm thinking since the NSX one is so narrow, if I use the auto tranny piece then I might be able to use the real NSX-R one and just call it a day.
