I always wondered what the proper method of switching is. Are u supposed to switch with a lil gas pressed or do u just go to like 3.5g and then switch to 2nd without any gas pressed to even out and smoothen the transition?

this is what I do:
press clutch in
blip the throttle to about 2.5k RPM
release clutch smoothly
i have a question tho for those with a '95 240SX:
where is the engagement point on the clutch?? Mine is pretty high, i dunno if that's normal.
mine is high as well.. but then again, most cars are high like that.... umm,, yes.. it is normal if almost feels like it engages / disengases at about 3-4 inches down.. i'll check next time i'm in the car.. i'm not sure about that measurment
i'm obsessed with that white car.... aaaahhhh that body kit is sooo sexy,, and those rims... drool.. who makes em?

I usually don't even fully let off the gas. I disengage the clutch as I back the gas off to match the rev of the higher gear...then release the clutch. I do it very quickly and most of the time you wouldn't know I shifted if you didn't hear the change in rpm.
However you do it, ideally, you want to match revs for a smooth transition causing less shock you and your drivetrain.

i'm not exactly remembering how much 3-4 inches is on the clutch, but r u saying u only push the clutch down like 3 inches when u shift into higher gears? i'm just wondering b/c i put the clutch in like all the way i guess n then start lettin' it out. can u only put it in a little bit to switch gears?

release clutch, let off gas completely, engage clutch, match gas with clutch engagement.
You don't need to give it throttle. Besides, if you shift fast enough, the rpms don't go down much between shifting, leaving you at almost exactly where you want to be.

i rev match.... under normal driving (and even occasionally during some spirited driving) i won't use the clutch past starting 1st gear.
to upshift, shift to neutral, pause, shift to higher gear.
to downshift, shift to neutral, blip throttle, shift to lower gear.

isn't that supposed to be real bad for everyday driving.

Nope... if you're doing it right, that is. The gears don't grind, and if the synchros are doing their job, the shift is smoother than using the clutch.

Ings (http://autoimaging.com/shop/index.cgi?ID=X6SVRK&task=show&cat=Ings+Aero+Kits). It's beautiful.
When shifting up, just let off the gas a little bit so that it drops to the RPM you want for the next gear. So yeah, you'd generally switch with the gas pressed. When downshifting, bring the RPM higher.
