http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v72/streetphase/100_0840.jpg
Ghetto but worked great.. requires drill press, something to make the bolt pattern *a 5 lug rotor thats already been drilled for 4 lug works great as template* and additional metal needs to be shaved flat on the rear side to have the stud sit flat. Did this to a few cars.

Oh Lord, everything on my car is DIY. It'll take me weeks to take pix of everything.

I would love for folks to chip in and buy me a clean stock chassis. and a front clip. I'll post the most comprehensive SR swap you'll ever see :D

Nice work.

diy solid motor mounts
I never did this but its pretty simple and it should work..
Stack up a few hockey pucks
http://www.sportwheels.ca/hockeystore/puck.jpg
Drill hole
put a bolt/nut through it.

not sure how those would hold up to chemicals.

I'm a little confused on the sentra -> s13 seat belt conversion.. why not just just manual belts from a canadian s13? Then you wouldnt have had to cut the plastic like that..

I suggest you do a little research on that hockey puck motor mount idea, then consider taking it down..

b12 SENTRA belts becuase they are plentiful at junk yards.. canadian belts are not sourceful for guys in the US. That swap costed me like $12 bucks

Everything mentioned above is at your own risk, ... id rate the 5lug conversion more dangerous then motormounts by the way. But when teh above stuff is done correctly, it can be ok.

I've heard of that, several friends I know did that swap. iirc the reasoning is behind it is that they are cheaper and more readily available. Anything 240sx/silvia related fetches a nice drifter profit adjustment on the price. Junkyards pretty much give the sentra stuff away.

That 5 lug conversion is hilarious, but I have to say its got me thinking....

I wish I had pics of the process, but if an explanation is not enough, this can be taken out.

Custom p-leather wrapped glove box cover, cushioned arm rest, and shift boot.

The glove box is pretty simple, its just a matter of taking it all apart, ripping off the old tweet (I left the foam backing, however), applying some fabric glue and cutting and gluing to the back side. Then just put eveything back together and turns out like this

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC01767.jpg

For the arm rest, I found some foam padding around my house that i stacked and glued together, taking care to make it slightly bigger than the arm rest itself for visual reasons once its covered.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/armrest.jpg

Then its the same deal, spray on some fabric glue, put on your material, and start tucking / cutting / gluing on the backside. Once you're all done, screw that back piece on so it holds the frabric.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC01765.jpg

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC01766.jpg

The next thing I did was sew up a shifter boot. I just took the old one apart by cutting the thread with an exacto knife, transfered the pattern onto my new material and cut away. Now for obvious reasons, you'll want to sew this upside down (two pieces of material facing in on each other). What I did to achieve a nicer seam is that I folded over the material like this.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/boot.jpg

And you end up with a seam looking like this (pardon my janky looking thread, it was my first time sewing)

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC01771.jpg

Then invert it, put it all back together and it looks like this:

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/shiftboot.jpg

Another fun project was my LED foot/dome lights.

I bought some led's off ebay, they come in all sorts of different kinds (I'll let you do the research). Mine came with the appropriate resistors too. I bought some soldering iron, and this sort of backboard that you can put the LED's on.

Solder it all together and end up with:

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC03047.jpg

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC03046.jpg

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC03048.jpg

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC03049.jpg

Foot light:

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC03051.jpg

Dome light (pardon the tape, it was temporary.)

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/Mathieu1989/DSC03053.jpg

Now the camera shots dont give these justice. I thought they looked damn good, and they light up the interior nicely.

hypertek,

your front 5-lug also got me thinking. what did you do? did you take ALL but one of the studs out, mount up a hub-centric wheel and mark where you needed to drill? or did you get like a hub-centric 5-lug brake disc and do the same? fucking love that idea. now when i go 5-lug i'm only purchasing the rears

The hocky pucks are fine.
People have been doing that for years, just make and use some large spacer/fender washers so that the mouting surface doesn't tear up the rubber.

HyperTek

unicoladron, Yah when i did that *dont hav ethe car anymore* i had a NA Z32 rear end i purchased for $100.. so the front I just read about a few people doing it back in the days and running over a few years with taht setup. Remove the hub, use a drill press. I previously had 5lug Z32 rotors that I had drilled out for 4lug at the time, so i used that as a guide for the drilling. You have to trim some metal off the back to make the studs sit flat. Leave 1 original stud in the setup. Basically your going to have 1 original hole, and 4 new holes. Pop studs in, and test fit them into a wheel to make sure it clears smoothly.

Make sure you drill the stud holes right so the stud sticks in.. my idiot friend who did this for me made the holes too loose and id have a problem with them falling out, so i had to have them tack welded.. grrrrrrr

I eventually replaced the wheel bearings on those hubs since they went out, i figure that was due to the age of the car anyways.

There's a ton of other stuff I had to climb over to make work on the s12, I'll probably show it later. This car sucks. Next up is getting the KA in and running, welding in new strut towers in the rear to use full s13 rear coilovers, cage, and if it doesn't get fucked within a year or so, maybe rear multilink

joshchewuhh - hopefully you didnt make the hole too big.. the stud should bearly fit and not go all the way, put a brake rotor on it and then use a wheel lug and torque it down to pull the stud all teh way through. When done correctly they can not spin. The ribbed teeth on the stud will grab in the drilled hole.

SR Starter can be rebuilt with KA starter parts.. so if you have a SR starter take a shit on you, get a rebuilt KA starter and swap the parts over. Usually need a KA starter for a core exchange at your local store.

Id recommend this to slammed S13s if you dont change over to a nismo power brace.. This adds strength to the tc rod brackets

DIY ghetto brake ducts
Aluminum sheet metal. *i think the one i used in teh pic was steel*
Use 2 hardback text books to make a nice bend. drill a hole thru the lca and the homemade duct and put a bolt/nut through it.
Make some sort of way to bolt it to the tension rod

Make em super secure, use threadlock etc.. mine eventually fell off from getting loose etc.
Its basically a ghetto copy of the splparts setup
Probably better idea to make it hang lower instead of mine so it grabs air from the bottom

you have to drill the hole undersized by a few thousands of an inch to ensure that its a tight press fit.

Hypertek, can you add a few comments about the s14 turn signal thing? How did you put both bulbs in the housing?
EDIT: or is this to have the turn signal and side marker blink at the same time?

it basically just like a S13 front signal, duel filament making it a running light when the lights are on, and then flashing the high filament for turn signals.

Thanks. I had a lot of interest in my prototypes, but once I got almost finished, everyone flaked. Its not like they're expensive either. Now they're on my wall of unfinished/prototype/failed projects. I could build and market the blinkers for under $50 a set.

oOo

i used S13 harness and wiring since its 3 leads, which are 1 negative, 1 constant positive , and 1 signal wire. The bulb harness fits perfectly into the s14 zenki housing, not sure if its different on kouki.

Hmmm i just relooked at my pictures, i can see how it is confusing.. The pic was showing the turn signal and upper corner light plug pulled out of the front bumper... Only 1 bulb will be going into the light housing.. The pic was to show where to tap the wiring to. Sorry for the confusion.. hahah that was a few years ago.

This setup I had back in ~2000 also done with POR20 Brilliant ALuminum.

Here is another engine of mine that I had in my B13 Sentra SE-R which I drove the SHIT out of for about 4 years until I got rear ended by a SUV, that engine is still running today (3 years later) on the same T25 in my friends B13, I sold it to him and thats why I drive a S13 now. DIY auto pilot bearing removal and manual pilot bearing install.

Here what I use when im doing an auto to 5 speed swap I think some people will find this useful:

To remove the auto pilot bushing I use a 1/2" extension with a 9/16" socket that has been slightly (modified) grinded to fit snugly into the auto pilot bushing and then simple push down and and pull up repeaditly until it wiggles it self loose, this works good!

Next to install the manual pilot bushing without damaging it first I soak the pilot bushing in motor oil for about 15-20 minutes for godo measure, then from my auto transmission I jack the input shaft from it which pulls right out (which can also be seen in teh pictures) use this to install the pilot bushing by placing the manual pilot bushing over the shaft and gentle tap with a hammer or mallet.

Tried PMing you back but it said you could not receive PMs or had set it no not receive them. Fix that shit. LOL This is what I was trying to send you.

I do know they need resistors and that each application will be different based on the V, Ma, and number of LEDs. I have done a decent amount of searching on hidplanets LED forum in the past year or so. I had more or less forgotten about doing any of it though, until I saw your setup. Where do you get your circuit boards? More or less just wanted to know what LEDs you used and where to get the boards. I have a calculator bookmarked for resistors.

I make all my boards using copper clad board, or perfboard which is commonly available at RadioShack. Copper clad is more professional, but it has to be etched using acid solutions and what not.... Perfboard is good for smaller projects like dome lights.

I had a working prototype using those ebay altezza clears, tinted red (like I had long long ago) and they came out pretty pimp mode. They took a long time to get just right, and nobody came through with solid funds so I abandoned them. My boy was rocking them on his s13 until the ass end got smashed by a Durango.

Yeah, that's my ideal goal, is to do a ring for tails, and a center for brake, but I don't know that I'll ever get around to it. I'm also kinda scared to go prying/cutting on my set of kouki tails. LOL

I don't know how they stand, legally. I'm sure their board designs have some sort of patent on them. That doesn't stop anyone from making their own boards from scratch. I assume as long as you don't copy their boards exactly you're in the clear. I haven't seen the boards and probably never will.

Don't do it to Kouki lights until you've had enough time to take apart a few tails without breaking em... which is why I went with eBay altezzas. Of course, right now I'm trying to get a zenki centerpiece for the tail set so I can mod it with LEDs to illuminate with the brake lights. I can't get one in my price range though.

Yeah, that's my worry... LOL. I might try my old stock tails and see how hard they are to get apart. What's your price range on the S14 zenki center section? I assume you mean the stock center section, right?

Ghetto but worked great.. requires drill press, something to make the bolt pattern *a 5 lug rotor thats already been drilled for 4 lug works great as template* and additional metal needs to be shaved flat on the rear side to have the stud sit flat. Did this to a few cars.

I did this same thing and have (knock on wood) zero problems so far..

Took stock S13 hub, knocked out all studs except one

Placed stock S14 rotor on top

Put in drill press to drill out holes

Used an end mill (school I went to had one, all you're doing is removing material)

Once holes are drilled, knock in new studs, (you can tack weld each stud if you want)

MCD is a rating that really shouldn't mean anything when you start getting into 'big boy' LEDs, because many cheaper LEDs aren't as bright as other higher quality LEDs with the same MCD rating. Also, higher quality LEDs (Such as LumiLED Superflux) will last much longer at their recommended working voltage and amperage. The ones I used in my third brake lamp are found here

They're not cheap, I'm warning you guys now. Red/Orange, like I've already said, is more intense than straight red, and when used behind a red lens, they look great.

Hopefully you guys don't mind me bumping a slightly old thread, but I was talking about the same subject of drilling the hub to create a new pattern in mine.

For those who have done it in the past, why didn't you just thread in new studs into the holes? I am sure you could have used a tap to create threads. This way, it won't be too much of a permanent thing. Then also, if the stud breaks, then it would be somewhat easily replaceable.

Also assuming that you are worried about it possibly sliding off of the threads, and want something more secure, why not just put a couple of tap welds on the back of it. This way, it will be secure, but you could always grind the tap welds down, and remove the stud?

Just trying to throw ideas out there with you guys.

^Wheel studs are pressed in. ^

Maybe I am just used to converting over to studs in my other cars. Cause for example, a BMW uses wheel bolts and if you were to convert it over to a stud, all you would have to do is thread in the new studs into the existing threaded holes on the hub.

All that is used to secure them down is some red or blue loctite (don't remember which one at the moment they used). A lot of racers use this method on their cars, to change out wheels quicker, and have no problems with just threading in the studs. This also allows them to change it out every so often if needed, since they experience a lot more wear and tear than normal use.

then we took a stainless steel brake line and shaped it (gently) into the same shape as the coat hanger. Make sure you do not disfigure the cross section of the brake line.

Kinda-sorta-useful for the few who care about trying not to spill fuel onto their paint @ the gas station:

Total project time: about 3-5 minutes

Equipment required:
- Scissors
- Rubber material or a 240z fuel splash guard (or whatever it is really called)

http://bewbews.com/pictures/3/1563.jpg

Step 1:
- Trim the splash guard
http://bewbews.com/pictures/3/1564.jpg

Step 2:
- Fit the piece - if you trimmed too much like I did (or just got a rectangular piece), you can wedge it between the fuel sender grommet & the chassis.

I've used window glue for my motor mounts. If you section out the center of the factory motor mounts and just leave the outer trim for the shape, just fill up center with the window glue and let it dry for a day or so.. Doesn't have the vibrations at idle and when you give it some gas, the motor seats just like solid mounts.. sorry no pics on my mounts but its pretty straight forward..

Looks like the vacuum manifolds selling for anywhere from 30.00 to 70.00 shipped.

I looked more and found these
http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm29/Hawaiian240/DSC04281.jpg

Aluminum Air Manifold w/ one 3/8" and seven 1/4" holes. All NPT. I think blue is the only color available. Also comes with two 1/4" plugs in ends. $9.99 on sale, $14.99 regular price.

Brass 3/8" NPT w/ 3/8" barb $2.79 per pack.

Brass 1/4" NPT w/ 1/4" barb $1.99 per pack.
http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm29/Hawaiian240/DSC04283.jpg

Put them all together and you get this
http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm29/Hawaiian240/DSC04290.jpg

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm29/Hawaiian240/DSC04289.jpg

Total price: $18.75 + tax.

Found a website (fittingsandnipples.com) that has cheaper brass fittings:
1/4" NPT x 1/8" barb $1.00 each
3/8" NPT x 1/8" barb $0.93 each

No mounting brackets, but it beats paying 2-3 times the price! Besides, you can make your own brackets.

Haven't seen anyone on zilvia use a vacuum manifold so far, but for less than $20.00, I thought it a good DIY.

what's that? you bought a new downpipe and that shit hangs way too goddamned close to the ground? no worries, there's always a ghetto way to hold that shit up.

1: unbolt your cat heat shield (three bolts).
2: with the exhaust jacked up against the floor, bend a strip of aluminum to hug your test pipe and barely reach those front two threaded heat shield holes.
3: using the old heat shield bolts, bolt the strap in nice and tight.
4: release the jack and ensure that the exhaust is satisfactorily held up.

before: my flex was 1/8" off the ground. after: 1 and 1/4" off the ground. huge difference.

Relocated my rack/extended tie rod ends (1 pair of oe's cut, beveled and welded to stock length ends)
Built, modded and tuned my own megasquirt
Rewired my car completely (it's shitty but functional)
Built my own turbo manifold from recycled oem header parts
Built my own downpipe
Built my own power steering system from SS hose, added a ps cooler
Built my own sketchy tube front and strut tower braces
Wet sanded and rattle canned my car
Built my own oil pan complete with swing door baffles.
Built my own vg30et "engine swap kit"
Built tons of other stuff i'm probably forgetting.

All in my driveway and kitchen table on tooth skin budget because. Even when i had money to have a shop do the work for me i opted to diy. If something fails i can be mad at only myself.

All of it is mad ghetto but functional.

Mostly pumped on my turbo manifold. First one that came out decent. It's not perfect but gets the job done so far. I haven't done any heat cycles past 8 pounds yet.

Pretty much because my last car had a stock gutless engine, low low with shit suspension geometry, bn aero and ultimately never made me happy. This thing? It came to me a janky drift car with a dying ka24de. It's still pretty janky. Less crying if i smash it into something. The mentality zilvians typically dont want to hear. Bent frame. Trashed framrails, so much rust....figured i'd have some fun for once with a car i dont consider "clean worthy". Strictly post apocalyptic punk rock drift car.

This came off a Caprice cop car. Both sides of course..

This is awesome. Would try. Solid work!

Love this thread! It deserves more attention

I like the idea for the down pipe. Reminds me exactly of what I did for a radiator bracket. Also I saw someone who used metal bands around the rubber pieces the exhaust hangs off of. Helps with the muffler if the outlet is hanging too low from the bumper or if it hangs too low to the ground.

Don't think this has ever been done before but..

Here's my idea:
Cut out the rear window of the hatch and put a couple motors on each side with some hinges. That way I can pop it up a few inches like a sunroof and have some air flowing right through. I love the feeling of having a rear window that opens up. It's so much smoother that having the air beating in the front windows.

And here's a picture:

I love the ricer look of ye ol' crown royal shift boot. Especially with the obnoxious bar tap shift knob. And my awesome early 90's touchscreen radio lol.

Because diy shit is awesome and a good way to see how other people have gotten around the awful 'drift tax'
