2002 Lexus IS300
2001 Mercedes Clk 430
LongGrain
01-20-2008, 08:41 PM

240, 260 or 280z - Throw whatever cash is left over into suspension/maybe a SBC or SR20 (just to be different :p)
Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - I have wanted one of these for so long
300ZX twin turbo - Another car I have wanted for a long time :)

I'd probably buy something cheaper than 15K and just dump the left over money into it.
Any old school muscle/pony car (Charger, Mustang, Camaro, etc.)
Any old school import (Z, Celica, 510, etc.)

I thought this thread was "cars you DO own besides your 240". I got excited about listing my "stable".
Cars I would own, but currently don't? Probably a truck that can actually haul something.
C5 vettes are coming down in price, and they spank the shit out of 350z's in the sub $20k market :)

Early 90's Toyota Hilux/Hilux Surf/4Runner/LandCruiser, lifted, with 36" or 38" tires, for winter.
Or a Jeep XJ, CJ, or TJ with 33-35" tires.
I really need a winter vehicle :(
Wouldn't mind a pickup for haulin' too though. I guess 15K could net me a lifted SUV beater and an old long bed pickup.

What SHOULD I buy, probably a 5-speed is-300 or an older q-45 for my daily driver (the q-45 would be modded obviously). What WOULD I buy, probably an FD RX-7. If I had an inhuman amount of self-control on that day for some reason I might end up with a WRX.

mmmm 2.5rs....my friends teacher at wyotech had one that was insane...JDM sti engine...RHD conversion bride GIAS seates, along with a shit load of other mods...so nice
At an autoX event I did a couple years ago there was a guy who did a JDM Sti Engine in one. He SUCKED at driving. Like REALLY REALLY SUCKED. Put it this away...I was running faster times in my 240...my BONE STOCK 240. :mepoke: The funny part was he was real happy with his times. He was talking to his friends about how good he was doing. We were all talking and he said, "what times are you running?"...I told him. He couldn't understand why? Then he started asking me for tips and whatnot. I told him to go talk to my friend Bart (who is a SCCA instructor). Yea, he was kinda salty then. But he was cool about it. At least he realized he sucked and wanted to do something about it. His last run was faster then my best time of the day though.
Moral of the story...Money can't buy skillz.

Since we are considering moving north to washington or oregon area and the gf laid down the "you are going to need something with 4 doors as a daily driver" argument I would seriously consider a subaru or evo...anything with turbo and awd. 1987 was the only year they called it the grand national. they technically made it from 1982 to 1987, but until 1987 it was just a regal T-type with a upgrade package.
you sir are wrong. 87 was the only year of the GNX.

a realistic answer is an IS300 5MT because it is fun to drive, reliable, and good status.
if i want speed, i would go for a 300zx tt 6mt. but i dont think it is as reliable as lexus.

Probably an old WRX, the last model MR-2 with a hardtop, or a 98 GS300.
Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind a Lotus Exige S though, but with $15K it ain't going to happen.

Might be a little harder for older model EVO and STi so I guess I'll just put Impreza and take out the EVO completely cuz I'd rather not get an Rally OZ, LOL...

Well, to be fair, I work at a dealership, and I get crazy deals on the trade-ins that come in. I suppose a majority of you aren't quite as fortunate.

I currently own a 1985 Toyota 4x4 ex. cab.
I love it. It's a 5-speed, it's got the solid front end, and just overall kicks ass. I'll poast some pictures when I start modifying it.

I can get them for the same price that we pay for them on the trade. In the year that I've been here, I've seen two 04 STi's come in that we paid less than 15K for, and there was even an '07 with less than 20K miles on it for 19 grand.
Different coast, different pricing. lol
I'm gonna miss this job.
Oh, and to add to my list... A FFR Cobra kit car (the basic package), and an '88 Mustang GT. Buy both for lessthan 15K total, and build a sick track-ready car for less than 20 grand.
