anyhow, going to the detroit auto show on tuesday. its photo day. so i can get in an hour early, and im allowed to bring my tripod and camera. hopefully everything goes well. wish me luck.

other than that, i have the <$100 canon 50mm 1.8, and a sigma 10-20mm f/4. next on the list is a flash and a canon 24-70mm f/2.8L.

Just saw this ~ I shoot a 5D (it's actually in my avatar shot), and of course, love it. Also had a Fuji S3 for my Nikon lenses, which gives me more accurate greens and reds (comparing "stock" settings on both), but not nearly as fast as the 5D and sucks down AA's.

Are these HDR'd, or what? They look "amped"/"stylized" without looking "photoshopped" - I dig em :)

Yea the canon 24-70mm 2.8 lenses are real nice i used my bosses one once and i knew i had to get it but its way to much for me to afford right now. I might just get the tamron 24-70 mm 2.8 lense i heard good things about it and its a lot cheaper. FOr the flash are u getting the 580ex

#3 (#4 on here) is my favorite. The BW of the barrels. I could go on all day about how great that shot it.

Oh and what lens did you use for those shots? Your sigma 10-20?

the barrell one is with the fifty prime. i broke my tripod while on mackinac island, so i couldnt HDR everything. hahaha.

i must confess, i am an HDR whore. some are not, but most are. i really dislike the extremely fake look. so i flatten them sometimes to give a more natural look. i dont really know though. i like it, and some people tend to like it.

im not sure about the 580. its expensive, and i dont shoot people. i was thinking about just getting the 430ex, and either an omnibounce, or the gary fong light sphere. i'd rather spend money on a nice L glass, instead of a flash i wont use that often. hell, i dont even know how to use an external flash. im sure that would take a long time for me to learn.

the light sphere is a huge ripoff, If you dont do portraits, then just get some tape and a peice of tupperware on a 430 (or any "real" flash, for that matter)

how are you liking the nifty fifty? it would be nice having a lense where i dont have to step up to f11 to get the glasses full potential. (damn you tamron)

thie fifty is ok. it really makes you think about your shots alot. since with the crop factor, its more like an 85mm lens... but it is razor sharp. and at 1.8, the bokeh is really amazing. biggest downsides are the quality. its made of plastic. and the autofocus is LOUD, and pretty weak. it wanders alot. but its fun, and you can get one for $80 brand new.

i'd say its a good portrait lens, for cheap.

this is my best 'portrait'. its not great, but its the best ive gotten. lol.

its sharp when you stop it down to 1.8. but you can also soften it up a bit. fun lens when you want to get 'artsy'. it would be great to have a 30mm prime lens for the price of the 50.

That's the thrifty fifty. The nifty fifty is the 50 1.4. That lens is baller.
