To bad I have to get a auto 240 cause my parents won't let me get a stick. I was wondering what was the stock times for an AUTO. And with I/H/E what will it be? and is a apex i S-AFC worth it does it really do much? and should i get Denso iridiums?
thnx

Why won't they let you get a 5-speed ?

You should tell them all the good points of a stick:
Better gas mileage, it's safer if the accellerator sticks, in the winter you can hit the clutch around corners to help with traction, it saves on break wear if you downshift, It gets more HP to the wheels, but I doubt that will be a selling point for them, hehe.
Personally, i'm never going to drive an auto if I can help it.

I have an auto...its not too bad but i don't race all that much.
My dad said that since this is my first car he didn't think i should get a stick. Said it would just be another thing to think about while i was learning

I learned how to drive on a stick. . . It was "You'll need to know this, so start on it or you don't drive" <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Wait...wait...don't tell me, I've been there before....
They want you to get an automatic because they "say" they're gonna have to drive your car from time to time and they can't drive stick right? If that's the case, I bet you they'll only drive it once or twice and then they'll forget about it. Therefore, you're stuck with an automatic. That's my current situation with my Integra. Now they've realized they were being jackasses about the whole "automatic vs. manual" deal and I've been good at school, they're gonna help me get another car that's newer vehicle equipped with a 5-speed transmission.
Bottom line is, you can save up money and do a tranny swap down the line if you REALLY, REALLY love your car and it's in excellent condition. Otherwise, you can do as less to it as possible and hopefully your parents would start to realize that you wanted a 5-speed in the first place, sell your car, and then get one with a manual tranny.

Have fun power braking. I've heard the S-AFC blows. Why would you need it with only I/H/E? The stock ECU can handle that, then buy a JWT ECU to furter your HP.

OK my first car was a stick 5-speed i didnt learn on that i had a friend with a stick car and he taught me a little on his and hten i used mine once you get the hang of it its not really thinking it becomes habit plus then you can say you can drive both stick and auto comes in handy like in school one of my teachers pulled me out of class cuz he needed me to go pick up his wifes car(it was stick) and he didnt know how to drive it nor did liek any other students so its a good thing :-)

Tell your parents you need a stick. It's one of the few skills that everyone really should know. I'm not trying to be Rush Limbaugh, but my 10 year old cousin can drive an auto. Stick is a good skill and there's less to go wrong. You should show them this thread
Pros and Cons for Sticks and Autos.
Sticks:
1. You can pick your shift points.
2. You can push the clutch in when you're sliding, allowing no power to go to any wheel, which in turn allows the wheels to catch up without opposite forces, thus gaining traction and saving your butt. Winter proves this wonderfully well.
3. Less costly maintenance. Sticks are simple straight gear driven units. Autos involve planetary gears and fluid chambers.
4. Manual transmissions are stronger than autos when they power the same application
5. Manual transmissions are better for cornerning, because you can downshift into the turn and come out on the gas, thus assuring the proper cornerning line and maximum speed through the corner. (I doubt your parents will like that one, but oh well. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>)
6. In the event of an unlikely nuclear attack and the world has only manual transmission cars left, you'll be happy you know how to work it.
7. It's an art to drive a stick. Too many yuppies these days won't even attempt to learn, and that's sad.
8. Have you ever tried jump starting an auto? It's annoying, and I tell people with autos to call a tow truck. With a stick, you pop the clutch in 1st or reverse and the engine catches, and then you can drive it home regardless of if your battery ran too low to turn the starter. Or say your starter goes out.
9. Going down hills, you can stick it in 1st or second and ride it out with minimal braking. When you're following tourist cars in summer down hills, there's always someone riding their brakes in an auto. Thus the hideous smell, as they glaze their brakes.
BTW: I'm not bashing anyone here who has an auto.
For Auto transmissions, I can only think of a few plusses.
1. Autos provide more even power to the ground. In snow, the auto will have better traction.
2. Autos have more torque, which is handy if you're towing. Towing with a 240sx isn't really that great of an idea though. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
3. If you constantly drive in stop and go traffic, autos are nicer (easier).
4. You have to have the fluid and filter changed (bottom pan) every 3rd time you change the oil, leading to more costs. Oh wait, that's not a pro! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
Bottom line, unless you do the traffic shuffle day in and day out, I wouldn't get an auto. Many more problems can arise than with a manual.

my 91 240 is an auto, and i reall cant complain. i bought it cheap ( i have no $$), and it still has some power (enough to beat most any civic out there). it is a 240 after all, so i really do like it. i would still recommend buying a stick if you can by any means. but if you end up with an auto, dont complain, its better than nothing.

notuchn is right guys.... an auto 240 is better then no 240!!! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
get an auto now...and later when they change their minds....trade it for a manual 240.

Get the auto first. This way you won't be as likely to notice what you're missing. =)
