Ok im not new to the modding game and i already have a 2jz-gte IS300 and a N/A built 350z. I am looking into purchasing my first nissan 240sx.

Now my friend is selling it to me and asked for 2,000. I think that is kind of high and here are the specs.

1993 Nissan 240sx fastback.
fair condition 2-3/5 stars i would say.
slight body damage and engine will need to be replaced along with the tranny but it RUNS.
225,000 miles on the engine and body.

I kelly blue booked it and it said around 1700 for private party and $650 for trade in value.

So my question is what should i expect to pay for this thing. what would be over paying and what would you guys offer him and why?

thats a bit too expensive i think ...my friend bought a 93 coupe power everything with 126,000 on the odo 1 owner and he paid 4,000 otd from a dealership thou but it was clean as fuck...id say keep on looking take a look in the for sale thread and grab an idea of how much these pos go for.:bigok:

haha thanks but i have been for about a month now and everything is modding or swapped or a shell. One may have slipped by me but i couldn't find relative to the position im in. I will take another look but didn't spot anything with a high milage Running car with an engine and tranny about to commit suicide. dunno. I have an sr20det sitting in my workshop so you can understand why im eager. :aw:

Doesn't sound like a friend-to-friend price, that's way too much for a busted 225K mile S13. I could see it going for $1500 if either the driveline or the body were perfect, but if they're both screwed up? No way.

Clean, unmolested S13s are getting tough to find, but that one doesn't sound very clean. I'd offer $1000 if I had money to spend and were feeling like a good Samaritan.

here's some insight.

my 240 was 1500 when i bought it. it had a straight body with a couple door dings and ran fine. it had a rusty hatch, but find one that doesn't.

2000 is WAY too much for a beaten s13 with a bad engine. offer him 500, if the body's okay.

I paid 1000 for my '90 with a dented fender and blown headgasket. I didnt care about the KA because I was doing a swap. But 2k is way too much.

That sounds like a little too much to me. You should keep looking, better than buying something and having buyers remorse afterwards. It took me almost 2 years to find my car. I probably saw, test drove a couple dozen before I made my decision.

I paid 1000 for a almost minty 89 piggy. 1 owner old lady "sports car". It was almost flawless on the inside. Small hole in the carpet, cracked windshield and bad alternator. It had 174K on the odo. You're basically buying a shell as I am asuming that you're going to swap it asap. If the body is minty 800 max. Check the frame rails up front near the wheel wells where it tapers upward. They like to rust in these areas. If it's small it could be welded up and good to go. Also if it has that weak ass wing on it. TAKE IT OFF!!! Those love to rust too. Just get that welded. Thats what I did. If you can't get him that low I would say broaden your search meaning you may have to drive to get it. That would be the way I would go.

My buddys friend paid 2K for a super minty 90 se hatch from the dealership. I don't think they know what the were sitting on. GL bro

I bought an 1989 hatch that ran. It needed a clutch, a headlight cover, and a fender... 165K miles.

$350 with a clean title.

+1 for $500. i got my last one for $200 and the body has only 2 tiny tiny dings. for 2g's it'd hafta be fresh perfect paint with absolutely no imperfections/scratches/dings/dents.

if its a friend id tell him to eat shit and give me the damn car. If its not a "friend" then show him 250-350 $ and see what he says. Otherwise find you another shell at a junkyard and tell him GL with the sale cuz he wont ever get 2K

haha i know. two of my good buddies have sr20det's in their car. slightly modded. I am doing it cause i don't want to buy an RB cause i already have a 2jz is300. I need something with better gas milage and fun to take to the track. My 350z is a convertable and still N/A. the IS300 isn't quite right for the track. hence the 240 build. I also would prefer the SR over the KA. want to start with a motor already boosted than boost a NA one.

Thanks for the posts and this guy isn't a close friend. Just a friend who isn't 100% tuned into cars. He got the car from his bro and is trying to get some $$ for it. Thanks again for all the help guys. Nice to see some feed back so quick.

Overall concensus say $2k over price. It is in fact true. This thread will now turn into a bragging contest of how I bought this clean 240sx for dirt cheap. Price will vary places to places, buyer to buyer and seller to seller.

well god damn i bought a 2nd 240 for 250 bucks, in about the same condition as the one you described. He's selling the car at hyped-up drift craze price, not NADA or KBB value.

Yes sir, none of my 3 240s bought off craigslist have been over 1500, and all of them looked half decent and got me back and forth up kellogg hill. Friends dont rip friends off, especially if youre brothers til the end of time, singing the songs, the music that you like :hsdance:

Just to give you an idea, I paid $2500 for my '90 hatch w/ 130k miles. Body was in near perfect condition, good paint, all stock appearance. Came with megan coilovers and 17" zauber rims.

Good conditioned S13's are getting harder to find but if you're patient you will find the right one for you, don't rush into one with problems.

the price of it will really come down to supply and demand. if there arent alot of decent chassis's around...then yea...the price will be high. if its someplace that there dime-a-dozen (like FL.) then you can pick one up cheaper.

in some areas its hard to find them in good shape, so guys are willing to pay alot more.

if they arent that rare where you live...i'd get him to go lower...or just looking for another car.

IMO its a rip off, atleast from what ive seen. i just bought my 96 240sx se last month for 1500.. 180k on the car, 90k on engine but needs rebuild soon so i ripped it out. flawless interior. clean title. lowered. no rust. no dents. but it was an auto. you can pick up an sr'd s13 that needs some body work for around 3k around here easyily.
